Product Design and Modeling of Global Retail Markets has an opening for a Senior Managing Actuary leading the Complex Components Department.

Job Summary:

Complex components builds complex pricing and underwriting models for all GRM lines of business in all markets globally. The Sr Managing Actuary will manage model development and application, providing strategic leadership in pricing and underwriting offerings. The focus will be on advancing the sophistication of our underwriting models and complex components of our pricing programs, advancing us towards being an industry leader in these areas.

The role will report directly to the Head of Product Design and Modeling, and will lead a team of 5 direct reports with oversight of a ~20 person operation.

Responsibilities:

• Build underwriting models for all lines and brands that advance the science and sophistication of how we approach underwriting. This involves developing a strategy for model building and prioritizing among different types of models and modeling approaches.
• Build complex components of our pricing programs using a variety of statistical techniques. Key components this position is responsible for are:
• Territory pricing
• Credit models
• Limits and Deductibles
• Vehicle characteristics
• Evaluate new sources of data for pricing or underwriting models. Determine the model lift of these new variables and the impact on new business growth.
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, or other quantitative field. Non-FCAS considered.

• 7-15 years of experience in data science and product, including management experience.

• Desire to be a leader in pricing and product strategy

• Strong business sense

• Strong analytical skills with solid understanding of predictive modeling techniques

• Deep knowledge of insurance operations and familiarity with the procedures of Financial, Underwriting, Claims, Statistical, Information Technology, Legal, and Sales departments.

• Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing

• Ability to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization.

• Ability to give effective training and presentations to senior management and other groups

• Ability to lead and get work done through others. Ability to coach and develop staff members.

• Comfortable leading teams with flexible work arrangements.
