The corporate accountant ensures and provides accurate and timely financial information to support the corporate accounting function, focusing on our discontinued operations and general accounting. This includes recording journal entries for the close process, reconciling various schedules and accounts and preparing analytics for the companies discontinued operations. The corporate accountant will also be required to work with both internal and external audit to ensure we have proper internal control procedures and workpapers in place to support the quarterly close process. This position also works closely with management to complete adhoc requests for various projects and analysis requests. This position should cultivate and support a continuous improvement culture and will participate in ongoing learning and engagement in a fast-paced corporate environment.

The ideal candidate must be able to contribute to the Company’s strategy and execution by applying their knowledge and experience.

Primary job accountabilities/responsibilities

  • Completes timely and accurate analytics
    • Income statement and balance sheet analysis for the companies discontinued operations and run-off of Health business
    • Work with third party vendors that supply us the data to understand trends
  • Completes various journal entries and schedules for discontinued operations and general corporate accounting
    • Record quarterly reserves and reinsurance accounting entries
    • Deferred gain on sale entries
    • Support and track service agreements for businesses recently sold
    • Record general accounting entries as needed
  • Account reconciliations
    • Complete various reconciliations for our discontinued operations and general accounting processes
  • Work with our internal departments such as actuarial on the integrity of the data
  • Develop and maintain relationships with corporate management and key stakeholders
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls, including SOX

Qualifications/Experience

  • BA or BS in Accounting
  • 1-2 years’ experience in an accounting position, however, we will consider recent college graduates
  • Knowledge of financial practices
  • Experience working in a corporate environment or shared service organization helpful
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong collaboration and partnering skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills
  • Problem solving, attention to detail and results oriented
  • Ability to work extended hours
