Job Description

The Marketing, Advertising and Media Category Team sources and manages a combination of commodities/categories in support of Sourcing and Procurement Solutions (SPS) objectives. SPS delivers procurement value and enables clients to deliver on their commitments through sourcing, careful contract negotiations, and securing best value for our clients. With leadership direction, a Senior Consultant sources and manages a combination of assignments and commodities/categories of medium to high complexity and risk in support of SPS’s objectives. The key categories handled by the Senior Procurement Consultant include Media Placement Services, Paid Search, Digital Media and Marketing Services and Sponsorship Services. Additional category responsibilities might include other types of Marketing Services such as, Social, Mobile and Display Advertising. This role consults with clients by coordinating sourcing/project teams and integrating efforts across functions and teams. This role utilizes the Strategic Sourcing Methodology to deliver procurement value which enables clients to deliver on their marketing goals and commitments. This role assists in recommending and developing category management and sourcing strategies, solutions, and processes to govern internal usage of medium to high complexity marketing spend categories, and drafts communications, compliance/usage reports, memos, presentation materials, and demand management policy/guidelines in support of the assigned marketing categories .

Key Responsibilities

  • For the assigned marketing categories, projects, or clients, responsibilities may include: Category Management: Proactively assess sourcing and category opportunities by gathering historical spend information, understanding marketing’s purchasing patterns, assessing competitive position, developing analysis of agency/category economics (clean sheeting, total cost of ownership, etc.), industry and market conditions, and expiring contracts.
  • Strong industry knowledge to collaborate and consult with Marketing clients to understand their business needs and objectives and establish requirements.
  • Strong industry knowledge when partnering with others to establish sourcing strategies which include evaluation of sourcing alternatives, identifying the sourcing approach, and establishing project plan/timeline to deliver an effective sourcing solution.
  • Execute sourcing strategies for key projects which includes ability to create and utilize the most appropriate sourcing tools/templates, align business client needs, identify supply alternatives (inclusive of diverse Agencies), effectively communicate with Agencies, and influence cross functional teams/advisory groups.
  • Develop Agency selection criteria and gain client alignment, facilitate cross functional teams to evaluate Agency responses to select finalists (participate if appropriate) and effectively communicate the impact of sourcing decisions to involved clients, management, impacted employees and Agencies, as appropriate.
  • Strengthen, expand, share, and utilize internal and external relationships within the marketing category. Provide effective communication (written, conversation) for medium to high complexity topics to influence and gain acceptance and approval of ideas, proposals and solutions from Marketing Leadership.
  • Participate in discussions and consult with internal clients, expense managers, and key stakeholders to develop and implement demand management guidelines to govern the use of assigned commodities.

  • Measure internal compliance with demand management guidelines and take corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Understand Allstate’s overall agency management framework. In partnership, with marketing clients, monitor agency performance and escalate issues.
  • Help drive the Performance Management for assigned agencies by documenting and reviewing agency service levels and performance.
  • Develop and manage agency incentive compensation models where appropriate. Assist with enhancing agency management activities to optimize agency performance.
  • Coordinate Agency Management components including contract inventory, segmentation, risk assessments, contingency planning, total cost of ownership agency fee analysis.
  • Participate in and contribute to business review meetings with agencies and marketing stakeholders to measure agency performance, contract adherence and issue resolution.
  • Document lessons learned and help progressively enhance agency management activities to optimize agency performance.
  • Utilize and ensure all appropriate documentation and internal control/compliance standards are met (process, templates, tools, contract database, etc.).
  • Develop category plans, presentations, strategy materials, and other documents as necessary.

Job Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/advertising, supply chain management, and/or a business-related field MBA a plus CPSM (CPM) designation
  • Preferred 4-6 years business experience in sourcing and procurement, supplier management, or the marketing industry Media Placement Services, Paid Search, Digital Media and Marketing Services and Sponsorship Services category knowledge is preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of procurement and marketing techniques and principles
  • Sourcing process, negotiations, contracting, Agency management, Agency diversity, industry/trend analysis, metrics/measurement, etc.
  • Procurement tools (i.e., financial reporting tools, contract management tools, e-auctions, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Marketing and Advertising industry Experience with RFP development and execution using a SAP, Ariba and/or any other Procurement tool Experience with negotiations and contracting with appropriate Service Levels and/or incentive compensation models to measure performance
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, to interact independently with both internal customers and external Agencies at all staff levels
  • Project management and organizational skills Ability to summarize and prioritize souring projects and review with upper management Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
