PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The purpose of this job is to produce complex analyses, manage projects, and oversee the team workload to meet high levels of service within the Actuarial team. This position exists to support and execute Company strategy as directed by the Chief Actuary, while acting as a team leader and as a trusted advisor to other business leaders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides complex analyses and participates in process development.
- Provides technical, actuarial analyses in the areas of pricing, ratemaking, reserving, analytics, and systems integration.
- Participates in the development and documentation of actuarial department processes.
- Takes responsibility to modify processes in order to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Develops new business processes or comprehensive analytic efforts.
Works with business leaders to develop and implement new products and expand into new markets.
- Initiates project design within system constraints and demonstrate an understanding of dependencies.
- Acts in the capacity of a trusted advisor to other business leaders.
- Ensures that the work product supports business growth and profitability.
- Takes a prominent role in communicating and explaining actuarial findings to business leaders.
- Fosters positive, collaborative working relationships with higher level experts across the organization.
- Works with individuals in other departments in fulfilling the actuarial role within larger projects.
- Ensures soundness of actuarial analyses and consistency with Standards of Practice.
Assists in developing the Actuary team.
- Maintains a positive work climate and to foster motivation and engagement.
- Develops the skill to efficiently review others’ work and provide valuable feedback.
- Performs at the level of an expert as a team lead for a functional area (eg, regulatory/filings, corporate including reserving, systems administrator, critical thought process solving complex business problems).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may directly supervise employees within the Actuary team and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. These responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance and salary reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to further their skills and knowledge; creating and monitoring development plans; setting performance expectations/goals; forecasting staffing needs and planning for peak times and absences; enforcing department policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university. Minimum of 5 years actuarial experience in job roles with demonstrated proficiency in managing a domain area of responsibility.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Strong interpersonal skills and proven project leadership abilities. Thorough knowledge of actuarial models and ability to assess results. Thorough knowledge of broad segments of ICW systems and related business areas. Experience managing projects and resources. Dedication to work toward building a working knowledge of emerging analytic techniques. Ability to manage a larger project with multiple actuarial resources. Ability to work independently in deriving solutions to new business problems. Comfortable and competent in client interaction settings. Work with other business leaders within the organization in solving companywide business problems that require an actuarial component.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Office environment – no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands and employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.

This position maps to the Supervisor level.
