GAINSCO has an opening in our Corporate Claims Department for a High Exposure Claims Adjuster.

Job Purpose: To evaluate multi-state claims files involving serious loss and EC exposures; properly and proactively adjust assigned high exposure claims to full resolution as a member of the Home Office High Exposure Claims Unit; work effectively with other Claims Dept. personnel and share expertise and advanced claims knowledge to advance mutual individual and company objectives; as a productive Team Member, deliver required performance results in a high productivity environment; develop and maintain a high performance culture which delivers industry leading Claims performance.

Essential Job Results:

  • Reviews and Evaluates claim files assessing potential serious and large loss exposures; identifying potential extra-contractual obligations and related issues; analyzing cost effectiveness of litigation versus settlement while proactively pursuing settlement strategies including litigated claims.
  • Maintains workflow by assuring prompt and accurate handling of assigned claim files; corresponding with insureds, claimants and attorneys as necessary; controls and reduces loss ratios by utilizing the lowest costs in the settlement of higher exposure BI & PD claims and implementing settlement strategies as directed by Claims management; attends mediations and trials as required; monitors severity and expenditures to determine potential high risk claims exposures.
  • Ensures adherence to Company policies and procedures by reviewing assigned Claim files for accuracy, quality and identification of various specific loss indicators; and responding positively to performance corrections and management direction.
  • Maintains quality service by proactively communicating with staff, management and key personnel in various departments; responding to customer complaints in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma is required; College degree is preferred.

Experience: At least 5-10 years’ experience in property damage and bodily injury claims with at least 5 years casualty experience, must have prior litigation experience with expertise in handling high exposure or serious injury claims as well as claims with EC exposure to the company. Must have knowledge of automobile damage, mechanics of bodily injury, medical terminology, settlement negotiations and insurance case law. Appropriate jurisdictional experience required, experience in TX and FL preferred. Working knowledge of Guidewire software is preferred. Experience working with E&O and/or Reinsurance Carriers a plus.

Skills and Abilities: Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills and professional (or appropriate) business acumen. Efficiently manage own time and facilitate the on-going workflow and needs of other departments. Build rapport with other Team Members and Adjusters. Exercise objective judgment and critical decision-making skills. Use logic, reasoning and experience to identify approaches and solutions to problems. Must possess effective negotiating skills and multi-tasking abilities within a paperless work environment. Must possess strong leadership, mentoring and training abilities.

Other: Valid Adjuster License. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Office Equipment and Software: Computer, phone, printer, copier, calculator and fax. General computer skills: MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, Adobe, Internet. Knowledge of Image Right, AS400, Claims Manager and Claim Center systems.
