What does a SUBROGATION SPECIALIST do?
- Maintains workflow by promptly initiating recovery efforts on referrals from adjusters; reviewing files; corresponding with insureds, attorneys, vendors, and other insurance carriers; mailing subrogation demands along with supporting documents; documenting subrogation efforts in claims diary; proactively communicating with key personnel in other Departments; receiving and processing payments; posting transactions in the claims database; compiling data and producing reports to monitor new referrals, closed files, and expected recovery amounts. Provides opinion on litigation potential to supervisor for assigning legal claims. Present contentions to Arbitration Forum as a cost-effective channel for subrogation recovery vs. litigation.
- Ensures compliance with established subrogation best practices by reporting “key driver” progress to the subrogation team leader; provide a regular status report on claims files assigned to vendors and attorneys, and communicate referral counts and recovery dollars on a regular basis
- Provides a bi-monthly status report on claims files that are assigned to vendors and attorneys by maintaining an active diary of the claim.
What is required?
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (with two years’ work experience within field of major is preferred)
Experience:
- Previous Customer Service and/or Claims experience within an Insurance environment is required
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in auto liability and property damage claims
- Full understanding of auto claims investigations and claims processing
- Prior experience interpreting policy language and state statutes is required
- Ideal candidate will have a proven track record of making sounds coverage and liability decisions based on facts presented by customer and/or through additional fact gathering and investigations
Other skills and abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- General office skills and basic math
- Ability to effectively manage own time while prioritizing multiple tasks
- Ability to remain calm when dealing with difficult customers
- Effective negotiating skills
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify approaches and solutions to problems
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
