The Opportunity

The Advanced Analytics team is a world class organization supporting our Data Science and Analytic Research organizations at Allstate. We are solving some of today’s most complicated analytical problems though our driving mission to deliver next generation insurance solutions to our customers. As an Advanced Analytics Product Owner you will work in partnership with the Data Science team and enjoy time to innovate, learn, collaborate and teach. You will understand and vision the data science needs to incorporate analytics into every aspect of the enterprise. The Role

The Allstate Advanced Analytics Team is looking for a Product Owner with a passion to learn new skills and drive/vision foundational tools and capabilities to enable more advanced analytic processes such as: Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing among other techniques. The Advanced Analytics Product Owner works in an agile environment interacting with multiple analytic and technology teams to understand the data science needs and envision scalable solutions to meet these needs. The successful candidate is responsible for the design of data/tooling projects & proof of concept business solutions for users in analytics and Data Science. This person works directly with business users, data scientists, and analytic engineers on needs and tactical solutions. This is a highly dynamic position that requires a greater degree of flexibility, analytic agility and the ability to rapidly adapt to changing business requirements/needs, new technologies and data sources from inception and prototyping to fully developed solutions. This person will quickly establish themselves as a trusted liaison between the data science and technology teams to understand current processes and needs and vision solutions and roadmaps that will reimagine and support enterprise corporate goals. Effective organization and communication is important as this individual will be interfacing with different areas including business clients, technology, architecture and infrastructure teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand the changing analytic needs of users and Data Scientists and assists in the development of goals, and tracks of work to meet those needs
  • Work closely with various teams as well as external vendors throughout the agile software development lifecycle to answer product questions and guide the engineering teams to build the right solutions that supports innovation and process improvement
  • Collaborating with/and representing various data science stakeholders to manage and prioritize work/backlog that keeps all relevant parties informed and able to influence the direction of the work
  • Define and oversee development of prototypes for business/research solutions, so that business users may understand and explore new features or functionality, before implementation, to expose design assumptions and drive ideation
  • Passion to learn new tools, technologies/methodologies that can bring efficiencies or needed techniques to stakeholders
  • Ability to understand the highly complex analytic and statistical requirements of data scientists and translate/document them into product requirements
  • Define and document product requirements, user stories and epics to drive and execute rapid development of new data and analytic work tracks with fast iteration over quick sprints
  • Develop partnership relationships with technical and operational teams and establish cross-functional rapport with strategic external areas such as: Cloud, Security and Architecture teams
  • Provide cross-functional leadership in and communicate technical information to a non-technical audience; leveraging these relationships to meet common project milestones and goals
  • Partner with Legal, Security and Compliance Teams to ensure the platforms and tools are compliant and aligned with relevant regional legal and privacy guidelines
  • Provide input and technical guidance in project management, planning, task definition, estimating, reporting, scheduling, and workflows
  • Flexibility to perform additional tasks and duties outside of normal daily activities
  • Demonstrate technical leadership and provide consultation outside of immediate team

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative discipline (applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, research or related field) or the equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years of related technical/development experience and background in mathematics/statistics or data analytics
  • Basic understanding of a development language such as Python, Perl, Java, C
  • Intermediate or advanced experience or familiarity with analytic languages such as: Python, R, Anaconda, Scala
  • Prior exposure to working within a data analytics environment and a strong understanding of statistical analysis and data processing
  • Experience in Agile methodology including story creation, backlog grooming, as well as experience with interactive engagement and collaboration across SME’s and other stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence within and across a strong, talented and opinionated team
  • Conceptual understanding of descriptive statistics and exploratory data analysis (univariate, bivariate, distribution, correlation, histogram, scatter/box plots, text mining)
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience with statistical or analytical tools such as: SAS, Matlab, R/R-Studio, etc
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent follow-up skills

Additional consideration for the following experience

  • Cloud computing knowledge (AWS, Azure, Google)
  • Knowledge of technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of data management and data visualization concepts
  • Basic LINUX/UNIX knowledge a plus
