Job Description
We are seeking an Jr. Forensics Examiner involving forensic analysis of online and offline (“dead-box”) hosts and network logs associated with information security incidents discovered by the Threat Hunting and Monitoring capabilities. The role is supported by large amounts of data from vendor SaaS tools and internal sources, including various indicator feeds, SIEM, several threat intelligence tools, etc. in order to assist the role in contributing a near-complete technical understanding of information security incidents. The candidate will perform the functions of a digital forensics examiner and collaborate with other teams on-site in the Security Operations Center.
This is a Forensics role separate from E-discovery
Key Responsibilities
- Regularly perform post-breach incident response functions including but not limited to: host-based analysis functions through investigating Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X systems to identify Indicators of Compromise (IOCs).
- Examine firewall, web, database, and other log sources to identify evidence of malicious activity. (end-to-end IR cases and investigations while regularly performing host-based analysis).
- Investigate data breaches leveraging forensics tools including Encase, FTK, X-Ways, Axiom, SIFT, Splunk, to determine source of compromises and malicious activity that occurred.
- Conduct Live and dead box acquisitions of computer systems, servers, mobile devices and digital media
- Maintaining operational effectiveness of all hardware, software, and forensic support equipment.
- Maintaining proper chain of custody of evidence and associated documentation.
- Performing other laboratory forensic functions as assigned
Job Qualifications
- 1 to 3+ years of incident response or digital forensics experience
- Experience conducting triage, collection, and analysis involving intrusion/breach incidents
- Experience with host-based and server forensics pertaining to data breach response
- Experienced with EnCase, FTK, X-Ways, Axiom, SIFT, Splunk, Redline, Volatility, WireShark, TCPDump, or other forensic analysis tools
- Conducting research and development to identify new methods of forensic data extraction and preservation.
Preferred Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Digital Forensics, Cyber Security or related field
- Forensic evaluation on Mac and/or Linux platforms
- Scripting (powershell, Python, etc)
- Maintain forensic certifications and pursue training opportunities to enhance skillsets and develop Sr forensic proficiencies (e.g. Global Information Assurance Certification Forensic Analyst / Examinar - GCFA or GCFE)
