Position Summary

Develops and recommends policies and procedures that govern the credit and collection activities of the organization. Manages the investigation of credit risks involving customers and suppliers and the collection of amounts due to the organization for services rendered.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, coaches and grows a team of billers and collectors.
  • Continually evaluates, develops and updates billing and collection strategies to decrease DSO and increase cash flow.
  • Achieves budgetary goals for managing bad debt and unbilled receivable levels as well as benchmarks for those values across the entire business unit.
  • Aligns procedures to optimize cash flow and overall speed of cash application and minimize unapplied cash balances.
  • Resolves escalated customer complaints and queries related to past due accounts, credit hold decisions and billing disputes.
  • Monitors Crawford and Company’s credit risk.
  • Meets with management to inform them of potential high credit risk clients and establish follow up procedures to secure the collection of debt.
  • Directs and coordinates activities to implement policies, procedures, and practices concerning granting or extending lines of credit.
  • Prepares financial and regulatory reports required by law, regulations, and board of directors.
  • Analyzes and classifies risks as to frequency and financial impact of risk on company.
  • Selects appropriate technique to minimize loss, such as avoidance and loss prevention and reduction.
  • Prepares operational and risk reports for management analysis.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of current collection policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates data pertaining to costs to plan budget.
  • Reviews collection reports to ascertain status of collections and balances outstanding.
  • Establishes credit limitations on customer account.
  • Submits delinquent accounts to attorney or outside agency for collection.
  • Upholds the Crawford Code of Business Conduct at all times.
  • Participates in special projects or performs duties in other areas as requested.
Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • A minimum of three (3) years of credit and collections management experience
  • May require occasional overnight travel
  • Using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches.
  • Weighing the relative costs and benefits of a potential action.
  • Knowing how to find information and identifying essential information.
  • Determining how money will be spent to get the work done, and accounting for these expenditures .
  • Good personal computer skills including a solid understanding of Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
  • Communicating effectively with others in writing as indicated by the needs of the audience.
  • Talking to others to effectively convey information.
  • Looking at many indicators of system performance, taking into account their accuracy.
  • Identifying the nature of problems.
  • Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
