Reporting to the CFO, Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI), owns the investment operations function for LMI by building a scalable, repeatable and efficient organization. The Sr. Director of Operations leads with a continual improvement attitude relentlessly evaluating the target operating model and looking to use key relationships and outsourcing. The incumbent directs all activities, practices and procedures relating to LMI’s accounting book of record (ABOR – CAMRA/SimCorp), trading, reporting, analytical information, operational metrics and analysis of operating results and trends. Finally, the incumbent maintains a strong control environment that incorporates the impact of key market trends, regulation and standards.

Job Responsibilities
  • As a dynamic leader you will drive investment results and analytics, maintain a strong controls, understand the importance of operations and technology, and invest in talent.

  • A proven track record in leading/executing a global operations team, change management, diverse investment portfolio (Public & Private investments), and effectively driving a high performing team.
  • Actively supports and provides leadership to the Product Process Committee (PPC) in integrating new investment timely and with sound controls. Effectively integrating Derivative strategies and supporting regulatory reporting.
  • Focuses on improvements in execution that result in scalable, efficient processes while shifting the operational focus to value functions and analytics.
  • Hires, develops, provides mentoring to, and makes compensation recommendations for assigned staff. Defines individual performance objectives and development plans and ensures alignment with project and unit objectives.
  • Acts as a leader in key technology initiatives impacting investment operations, partners effectively with LMI technology and is a recipient/partner of the SimCorp integration slated for 2020.
  • Responsible for the operations control environment and provides recommendations to senior management focused on reducing operational risk.
  • Has overall responsibility for information provided by operations group. Responsible for ensuring the department provides timely and accurate information to internal (LMI, Corporate, etc.) or external (Rating agency, auditors, etc.) customers.
  • Stays up to date on changing technology and investing environment within company. Uses information to help set department objectives and plan for appropriate resources and budget needs.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication between asset class owners, investment finance, and corporate. Uses relations to get answers to questions to provide useful information to management with a focus on investments and operational time to market.
  • Leads all aspects of attestation and audit processes for respective operations group, ensuring that internal controls are working appropriately, tested as required, and issues are remediated timely.

You should have the following qualifications:

  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance, Business (or equivalent accounting experience).

  • Strong technical accounting skills required focusing on investment accounting. A CPA or CFA designation is helpful.

  • Requires 10+ years of significant accounting/reporting experience, ideally in the insurance/financial services industry.

  • Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of management responsibility.
