Job Summary
The Agile Coach will be working at all levels to help the organization use Lean and Agile practices as a strategic asset of culture change and delivering business value. The Agile Coach is a key member of the Transformation Office who will assist the organization with launching, stabilizing and optimizing program level and portfolio level teams while embracing and promoting Scaled Agile Framework and Lean Principles and Practices.


Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Directs assigned staff to implement and/or maintain systems of medium to high complexity and/or assigned project(s). Manages to the tactical and operational plan and budget for assigned information systems and/or projects of business unit significance. Provides input to the Senior management team on the development of the operational plan. Advocates the use of technology to develop and/or redesign the organization's processes. Understands cost benefit analysis as the key driver for enhancement and/or project prioritization. Has awareness of Enterprise strategies and impact on the line of business or functional area of responsibility. Provides key project stakeholders and IT leadership with timely status updates and/or system performance updates. Applies knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned projects and/or enhancements. Accountable for directing team to achieve deliverables. Manages team direction and the day-to-day work of direct reports. Responsible for providing consistent performance feedback/coaching and completing formal performance reviews. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. 5 years of technology or business related experience required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. 7 years of project management or technical leadership experience, leading large, complex deliveries.
  • Minimum 2 years knowledge and experience applying Agile practices and principles including SAFe, Scrum and/or Kanban including demonstrated ability to inspect and adapt Agile practices to various situations. Preference will be given to applicants who have launched, stabilized and optimized at the SAFe Portfolio level.
  • Proficiency in written, verbal and listening communication including strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change, advocate for and influence lean agile transition
  • Proven team player with the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders from management to practitioners
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with demonstrated relationship-building skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • SAFe, Scrum or Kanban Experience required
Pluses include:
  • Experience with Agile Central (Rally)
  • Experience with Portfolio level SAFe
  • Involvement with lean agile organizations
  • Insurance industry knowledge
  • Experience in leading technical teams, such as architecture, test automation, dev ops (CI/CD) and/or development
  • One or more Agile and/or Six Sigma related certifications (KMP and SPC4 preferred


Job Specific & Technical Skills & Competencies
This position requires an experienced IT professional with a solid understanding and experience with coaching Lean Agile practices and methodologies (Scrum, SAFe and Kanban). The primary responsibilities of this position include:
  • Launches and stabilizes teams and programs using SAFe, Scrum and Kanban frameworks
  • Mentors Scrum Masters, Product Owners, RTEs, Product Managers, teams and others on processes and behaviors that align with Personal Insurance operating model, SAFe and Lean.
  • Assesses performance of teams and programs, identifies opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations
  • Trains and teaches on a variety of lean-agile subjects
  • Contributes to development and sharing of lean-agile best practices across Travelers
  • Establish and implement metrics to optimize delivery and measure business agility in terms of predictability, reliability, and adaptability
  • Guide and mentor leaders and other coaches in Lean Agile principles and practices
  • Serve as a change agent and thought leader
  • Embrace, model, and foster a culture of Lean Agile thinking
  • Participate in both the internal and external Lean Agile community to stay abreast of challenges, leading practices, and emerging trends
