Job Summary
Business Insurance Information Technology is seeking a talented professional to join the organization as a full-stack Software Developer supporting the employee value stream of applications. Under limited supervision, performs expert programming, configuring, and/or analysis. Manages the effective use of team resources to implement ongoing projects, enhancements, and/or initiatives. Participates in the design/development process. Acts as subject matter expert for assigned applications, systems, and technologies. Leads investigation and resolution efforts for critical/high impact problems, defects and incidents. Provides technical guidance to team members. This job does not lead others.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for system programming and analysis tasks of advanced complexity within multiple systems. Acts as subject matter expert for assigned applications, systems or technologies. Responsible for transforming business specifications and requirements into organized technical activities. Responsibilities include performing complex analysis, assessment, resolution, design, configuration and programming functions at an expert level. Leads investigation and resolution efforts for critical/ high impact defects, problems, and incidents. Collaborates with project team and other key stakeholders to identify, estimate, and prioritize project and/or enhancement activities. Builds, maintains, and utilizes partnerships across the enterprise. Provides team direction, mentorship, and feedback to technical resources. Ensures work complies with Travelers standards, processes, and protocols. Applies knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned projects and/or enhancements. Embraces latest architectural patterns and practices. Opportunities to experiment with newer technologies, pitch innovative ideas for sponsorship. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or its equivalent in work experience, and five years of programming/development experience.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
6 years of programming/development experience preferred.

Job Specific & Technical Skills & Competencies
Experience programming with C#, LINQ, ASP.NET
Experience with ORM technologies a plus
Experience working with web service technologies such as REST, SOAP
Experience in and understanding of version control (Git, SVN) and dependency management (NPM, NuGet)
Experience in web application with client-side technology focus. Angular 6+, Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2015+, SQL
Understanding of NOSQL solution a plus
Experience programming Cloud hosted applications and technologies, Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), Microservices
CI/CD Pipeline development, Cloudbees Jenkins, UCD
Windows Batch and PowerShell experience a plus
Understanding of JSON, XML and XSD
Ability to work independently and within a team environment

Technical Knowledge: Demonstrates advanced programming/configuration/analytical skills to achieve business and or technical requirements. Able to work independently to resolve discrepancies, defects, incidents or problems with understanding of the business and system impacts. Able to identify and exercise appropriate escalation communications. Demonstrates an aptitude for learning and applying new and/or updated programming languages, techniques, and/or software development disciplines. Demonstrates understanding of the supported business systems.

Communication Skills: Ability to communicate thoughts/designs/ideas in an unambiguous manner and adjusts communication based on audience. Exhibits active and effective communication skills with team members - including active listening and effective written and verbal communication skills. Effectively contributes and communicates with the immediate team.

Business Knowledge & Partnership: Able to clearly and concisely communicate with the business. Demonstrates willingness, cooperation, and concern for business issues. Able to understand assigned business unit and business priorities. Able to coordinate with other technical areas to achieve project/department or division goals.

Problem Solving & Decision Making: Able to recognize, analyze, and diagnose business and technical problems, incidents, and defects of advanced complexity. Able to creatively evaluate alternative solutions. Able to reuse previously completed processes. Demonstrates the ability to make routine decisions independently and recognizes when escalation is necessary.

Team Orientation: Comfortable with agile development and participating on an agile team. Ability to build and foster relationships with team, business, and technical partners to achieve objectives. Practices objectivity and openness to others' views. Able to recognize and support team priorities.

Planning (Project Management): Familiar with participating and developing stories in agile planning sessions. Able to accurately evaluate and estimate story points.

Environmental/Work Schedules/Other
Requires occasional off hours or weekend hours.

Operates standard office equipment. Requires extended periods of computer use. Requires extended periods of sitting.
