Overview

AmTrust Financial Services is currently seeking a Surety Claims Supervisor who will supervise 5 to 7 Surety adjusters that handle claims arising from our commercial Surety bonds. Their supervision will include the technical development of the adjuster’s claim files with a focus on coverage, investigation, evaluation and analysis, and litigation management. This position will also have personnel administration responsibilities. This position will assist the VP on special projects as needed.

  • Assign new claims, projects, and training to unit members based on complexity and skill set of staff;
  • Oversees the handling of all aspects of the claims assigned to the unit including reserving, communication, documentation, litigation management, evaluation, and resolution;
  • Ensures we provide top tier claims handling that conforms to quality, production standards and specifications;
  • Build efficiency and excellence with best practices, claim processing policies, procedures and department guidelines;
  • Reviews appeals and complaints that Adjusters are unable to resolve and prepares formal response to DOI complaints;
  • Analyzes and approves insurance claim payments;
  • Provides file authority as appropriate to unit staff;
  • Completes regular quality audits of staff’s work, records results and counsels staff to bring work to or above standards;
  • Prepares regular periodic reports and monitors system reports to ensure adherence to corporate and regulatory standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recognizing great work and creating employee engagement daily;
  • Establish and execute controls to assure that the quality of the work meets or exceeds standards;
  • Reviews and analyzes processes, procedures and workflows to identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency;
  • May recruit, hire and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers and disciplinary action;
  • Manages personnel administration including employee evaluations and salary administration;
  • Participate in the specialized training and handling of complex claim matters and projects requiring advanced claim knowledge and experience;
  • Manages the development and training of subordinates;
  • Oversee the activities of claims examiners in reviewing, analyzing and settling surety bond claim files.
  • Handles caseload of files, including Subdivision, Payment and Performance and License and permit claims or other types, as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President of Claims, hires and trains new and existing claims adjusters.
  • Makes court appearances as necessary.
Qualifications

  • Passion!
  • Exceptional leadership skills; plus the ability to plan, organize, delegate and develop corporate human resources;
  • Experienced in obtaining market valuations for all types of vehicles, determining that a vehicle is a total loss compared to a repairable vehicle, and determining comparable vehicle valuations on disputed claims.
  • Proficient in Excel spreadsheets including adding pivot tables to analyze Surety bond data.
  • Thorough understanding of laws, principles of coverage, liability, bond, and insurance industry in general;
  • Analytical and human relations skills are critical;
  • Effective communication skills; ability to obtain information from others and deliver information to others orally and in written form;
  • Ability to carry out detailed written and verbal instructions;
  • Ability to work with little supervision and direction;
  • Sound command of the English language;
  • Ability to operate business technology.

Education/Experience

Juris Doctorate preferred

College degree and five years equivalent experience and skills required.

Valid adjuster’s license in appropriate jurisdictions or ability to obtain such, if required by subordinate position duties.
