As an Underwriting Supervisor for War and Terrorism, you are responsible to build expertise by selecting, developing and leading a unit of technically competent underwriters with multi-line expertise, confidence of discernment, and detailed knowledge of loss sensitive rating plans. As a manager, you will directly engage on large, complex transactions and have responsibility for the performance, development and coaching of direct reports. You will also contributes to the growth and profitability of assigned product line(s) through marketing, underwriting and managing of products and services of complex risks. Requires extensive level of technical knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques to include coverage issues, product lines, marketing, relevant systems, and competition in the market place.

  • Leadership: Responsible for the acquisition, retention and development of underwriting talent. Formally leads, guides, mentors, and coaches underwriters and claim examiner in both technical and professional skills. Cultivates an environment conducive to continuous improvement and root cause problem solving activities.
  • Risk Selection: Responsible for implementing a strategy to better evaluate Liberty Mutual War and Terrorism opportunities and further UWs skillset in qualifying, selecting and assessing risk.
  • Agent/Broker Relationships: Engage directly with Agents and Brokers with Liberty Mutual opportunities. Develops underwriter negotiation, communication and general deal making skills.
  • Portfolio Management: Evaluates portfolio performance based on Liberty Mutual appetite, profitability analysis, and production metrics.
  • Quality Audit and Account Review: Ensure files meet all financial reporting, regulatory requirements and internal documentation standards. Coaches underwriters to articulate thought process, decision-making within both account reviews and file documentation.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced degree or equivalent training required.
  • High level understanding of commercial property & casualty products; insurance operations; finance and actuarial concepts; regulatory environment; reinsurance; account management; underwriting; and producer management.
  • Skills required include analyzing and problem solving; adaptability; decision-making, building relationships; working effectively with others; communicating effectively; negotiation; influencing others; applying financial acumen; focusing on service; executing well; planning and organizing work; and achieving results.
