Job Summary
An exceptional opportunity as part of our Business Insurance Intelligent Automation team to explore new technologies, lead change and deliver business value in support of our business customers. The developer will be responsible for helping design, develop and deploy capabilities that deliver value to our customers as well as provide thought leadership across all initiatives. In this role, you will work with a multidisciplinary team to design, develop & create solutions through application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and various other emerging technologies utilizing Agile scrum delivery framework to deliver business value in an incremental approach. The ideal candidate will increase the maturity of the group's current intelligent automation capabilities by progressing from traditional robotic process automation to true intelligent automation leveraging Cognitive, OCR, RPA and other associated emerging technologies to achieve end to end automation of the business process.


Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Intelligent Automation program in researching and evaluating new concepts and ideas.
  • Creating rapid prototypes including end-to-end development and testing of software bots using Automation Anywhere tool set along with integration with OCR (Kofax) and Cognitive capabilities using AWS, Google and other AI products for end to end automation of the business process
  • Ability to build prototypes and systems with knowledge of all steps within the design process: conception, planning, initiation, and implementation.
  • Analyze source data, working with structured and unstructured data (internal and external data).
  • Ability to develop advanced models and interpret model results.
  • Collaborate with team members across numerous departments within Travelers to ensure successful delivery.
  • Display a business mindset and truly understand how your work impacts the intended customers.
  • Ensure alignment to Travelers technical and architectural standards, both at an Enterprise and Business Insurance division level.
  • Maintain a flexible mindset and work style, delivering solutions regardless of development methodology, and being open to ever-shifting priorities.
  • Become an advocate for OCR, RPA and AI across Travelers, informing and educating on both the possibilities with the technologies, as well as progress within Business Insurance.


Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or its equivalent in work experience, and five years of programming/development experience.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and five plus years of related work experience.
  • Proficiency in any of the programming languages such as Java or .NET or Python etc.
  • Experience with Cloud technology (AWS & Google) and designing solutions that leverage its unique advantages.
  • Experience with modern technologies such as Docker, AWS S3, Lambda, Textract, Google Cloud Vision API etc.
  • Has experience in integrating with 3rd party web APIs.
  • Experience implementing software using microservices.
  • Leading, coaching and mentoring teams across projects
  • Understanding of both relational and modern databases and corresponding query language such as SQL.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently as well as being a team player.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to create professional presentations and present to peers and management.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills adapted to the intended audience.

Able to effectively collaborate with Project Manager and utilize sound project management practices. Able to manage time and competing priorities.

Financial Awareness: Able to assess the financial impact of recommended designs/solutions.

Environmental/Work Schedules/Other
May occasionally require weekend work hours, overnight work hours, holiday work hours (Federal and religious). May require travel as needed. Requires travel up to 5% of time.

Physical Requirements
Operates standard office equipment. Requires extended periods of computer use. Requires extended periods of sitting.
