Job Summary
The Principal Engineer contributes to the vision of the platform and leverages a detailed understanding of technology disciplines and capabilities. The Principal Engineer takes a lead role in the design, build, test, and deployment of large Enterprise applications involving multiple disciplines and business areas. He or she is also recognized as a technology subject matter expert in several key technologies, leadership of technical staff, and will influence key technology decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Provide industry leading technical subject matter expertise in several technologies.
Partner with architecture and leadership to develop comprehensive technology plans and present those to senior leadership including Vice-President level leaders.
Demonstrate industry knowledge, remain up-to-date on new technology trends, and ensure teams comply with best practices.
Provide technical and business risk assessment/perspectives related to new product implementation.
Leverage benchmarking to establish non-functional requirements to ensure system availability and durability.
Provide input into the performance management process and create appropriate benchmarks to evaluate teams.
Work with key vendors and partners to review and influence product roadmaps, strategies, and plans to ensure alignment with Allstate needs, both current and future.
Job Qualifications
- 15+ years of development experience with complex software systems in a production environment
- 5+ years developing complex browser applications. React/Redux expert.
- Java Spring development expert with 3+ years of coding experience
- Designed and overseen the implementation of a large-scale cloud-native application preferably on Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
- Deep knowledge of REST based services and design
- Deep knowledge in web and API security including authentication, authorization, OAuth, OWASP, OpenID, and SAML
- Demonstrated industry knowledge of Cloud Provider Services such as Azure or AWS
- Solid understanding of database concepts
- Expert in continuous integration, delivery and deployment pipelines for distributed applications
- A college degree in Computer Science or related field with a solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals including distributed systems, operating systems, databases and security
