The Team

This exciting role sits within the Mainframe Engineering Team of the Infrastructure Services organization, specifically within the System Engineering group.

The role of the Mainframe Engineering Team is to provide our business partners with a reliable, resilient, and modern platform to host their critical batch and online systems. This group supports IBM zSystem hardware, z/OS Operating system, GDPS, CICS, MQ, z/OS Connect, RACF Administration and more.

Job Description

Come join our growing Charlotte, NC Mainframe Engineering team as a people and technical leader of one or more of our mainframe technologies. We are looking for a person with people leader experience in any mainframe technologies and will be flexible in developing our mainframe support organization around yours and our other leaders skills and experience.

This position will have delivery and engineering responsibility for one or more Allstate Mainframe Engineering groups. The best candidates will have experience managing several technology towers but strong candidates managing a single tower will have an opportunity to join our team.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Delivery Lead/Owner for a Mainframe Engineering team.
  • Responsible for influencing future strategy for the platform technologies via partnerships with our server, security, database and application architecture teams.
  • Ensuring platform availability is maintained to the highest possible standard.
  • Ensure platform is prepared for next generation, modernized, and digital workloads as Allstate business systems are transformed to meet current and future needs.
  • This role is both a delivery and leadership position and will have accountability for multiple activities, such as employee hiring, development, performance management, recognition and succession planning

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, organized, have excellent communication skills and be an IBM Z advocate. We are looking for a strong leader who will engage and inspire a team of globally dispersed staff member and work with, teach and mentor current and new staff members as Allstate builds our next generation of IBM Z support.

All candidates should also be able to demonstrate a high degree of leadership competence through:

  • Ability to self-manage and be highly motivated to deliver results
  • Be able to facilitate diverse global teams, multi-task, and work under pressure to meet aggressive schedule targets
  • Be able to work effectively across organizational boundaries
  • Must be able to influence formally and informally
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other business groups and navigate complex decision making
  • Ability to collaborate well with engineers and clients

Essential criteria

  • Previous team manager experience
  • Strong knowledge of one or more Mainframe technologies
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure architecture & associated operational requirements in a high availability, reliable, and securable environment.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience establishing and building teams to deliver new technology services
  • Demonstrable leadership ability, performing all aspects of people management including talent development and performance management
  • Experience working in large global organization &/or financial industry
  • 5+ years of mainframe infrastructure management experience
  • 7+ years people and team management
