Job Description

The investment Risk and Return team supports asset allocation, investment strategy, and investment manager selection decisions. In addition, the investment Risk and Return team independently monitors investment markets and Allstates portfolio positioning; provides centralized quantitative data and analytics support; and, risk management oversight related to Allstates investment portfolio, encompassing more than $80 billion of assets under management. The group serves as an important and centralized communication and analysis resource to senior leadership within investments and across Allstates various business lines.

We are seeking a strong communicator with research and analytical skills to work closely with the Chief Credit Officer and related Risk and Return team to: 1) analyze market trends and portfolio positioning; 2) perform independent data driven research and analysis; 3) assist in the development of risk measures and control procedures; and 3) communicate risks and opportunities impacting the investment portfolio. The individual will also facilitate the continued evolution of Allstates investment risk management function and framework, necessitating strong critical thinking, collaboration, and data-driven analytical abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor investment portfolios and related investment markets on a regular basis, evaluating positioning for risks and opportunities. Identify primary areas for further discussion or analysis.
  • Continue to evolve Allstates reporting and analytics at the asset class, strategy, and portfolio levels, informed by both notional and risk positioning.
  • Review sell-side research, rating agency reports, and other external research for technical, fundamental and valuation considerations related to various asset classes.
  • Perform independent customized research and analysis related to market, sector or other investment considerations. Collaborate with other professionals within Risk and Return, as well as across asset classes, to evaluate the impact of these opportunities or risks on Allstates portfolio or risk capacity, including developing appropriate stress tests.
  • Continue to enhance and evolve risk measurement methodologies and frameworks.
  • Work with the asset classes and other professionals in Risk and Return to construct and maintain investment controls that are appropriate for the portfolio, striking a balance between manager flexibility and risk capacity.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of asset management, risk management, investment banking, investment performance, or investment-related consulting experience
  • In-depth understanding of capital markets, macroeconomics, and portfolio management
  • High degree of comfort adapting to new technologies, with expert level of proficiency in Excel, Bloomberg, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with BlackRocks Aladdin investment platform and coding capabilities a plus
  • Analytical mindset with experience applying mathematical calculations to assess investment performance, positioning, or evaluate investment opportunities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to communicate complex information with clarity and influence
  • Ability to proficiently collaborate with others, incorporating different points-of-view, experiences, and backgrounds
  • Strong research and critical thinking skills, with an ability to identify connections and approach problem solving efficiently and constructively
  • Ability to work independently and self-organize, managing a wide range of responsibilities effectively in a dynamic work environment
  • Focus efforts on continuously improving practices that create value and provide content rich information

Education

Required: Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics or related discipline

Preferred: MBA and/or CFA designation
