In this role you will manage staff, provide technical guidance and Agile leadership related to software development for our Personal Lines Underwriting portfolio. Your focus will be on leading a team of development professionals supporting our Underwriting Risk Services. Specifically, a big part of the role will be guiding these teams as we modernize the technology from legacy systems.

Duties include employee professional development, application ownership/stewardship and leadership for these teams within their agile release train and transformation journey. This manager reports into the Director of Underwriting Platform system within the Personal Lines Product & Underwriting Organization.

About the job:

  • This role entails application ownership for Personal Lines underwriting risk and sub-components within the Underwriting eco-system. Will be responsible for working with two agile teams of 5-6 developers each, and meeting performance meet SLA commitments.

  • Works with architecture and the agile teams to ensure system, technical and product architectures are aligned with business objectives.

  • Supports Sr. Product Owners and/or Product Owner(s) to ensure the agile teams are positioned with resources and tools to meet business objectives and functional needs

  • Ensures agile teams have what they need to successfully deliver high quality software solutions; intervenes only when necessary to remove an impediment, staffing issue or quality.
  • Works with Product Owners, Scrum Masters and team members to ensure service level agreements are met, problems are resolved in a timely manner, and necessary support is in place for a stable and performance application.
  • Hires and manages individual contributors; coaches and counsels team members. Defines individual performance objectives and development plans and ensures alignment with organizational objectives. Appraises and evaluates team and individual performance and makes compensation recommendations. Facilitates or provides mentoring experiences.
  • Responsible for unit's workforce and talent management plans, including skills forecasting, staff development, training and succession planning.
  • May establish financial plan for the application, portfolio or overall unit and manages to plan
  • Initiates and fosters collaborative partnerships with current and potential clients, IT and business managers, vendors and IT executives; develops relationships that support increasing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • May lead efforts to evaluate, select and implement new technologies to enhance application, until or portfolio.
  • Participates in the development of business and/or IT vision, strategies, critical success factors and operating plans for application, unit or portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and 5-7 years experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, and methodologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives, and strategies.
  • Advanced knowledge of management concepts, practices, and techniques.
