Summary:   Under general supervision of the Director of Information Technology, the Programmer/Analyst works in accordance with company’s software development life cycle. Primary responsibilities include analysis, design, code, test, documentation and support of new software applications and enhancements to existing applications. Contribute to the preparation of specifications to resolve business client questions. Provide technology solutions to allow business units achieve their objectives and goals.

Application Developer Job Duties:

  • Actively participate in the development and review of business and system requirements to obtain a thorough understanding of business needs in order to deliver accurate solutions.
  • Develop high quality, easily read & maintained software code in accordance with established company standards and development guidelines.
  • Maintain systems by identifying and correcting software defects.
  • Work as part of an Agile development team to solve problems and develop projects in a fast paced environment.
  • Perform adequate unit testing.At a minimum, unit testing should ensure all requirements have been addressed, all basic functionality works, and errors are handled properly.
  • Expeditiously troubleshoot application production issues.
  • Participate in requirement analysis code reviews, QA team hand-offs, and daily scrum meetings.
  • Develop accurate time estimates by becoming familiar with business requirements.
  • Prepare technical specifications, unit test plans and maintain application documentation.
  • Provide data analysis & ad hoc reporting.
  • Follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Demonstrate a basic degree of creativity and problem solving skills.
  • Work with business analysts and application users to define and design robust user- centric application solutions.
  • Collaborate with IT Operations to ensure hardware and software are aligned to deliver business requirements.

Application Developer Skills and Qualifications:

  • Graduation from college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Be goal oriented with the ability to work in a team environment and be flexible to daily changing needs and job duties.
  • 6+ years of experience in the Microsoft technology stack
  • Able to troubleshoot existing applications and develop ETL processes for data extracts/analysis.
  • Proficient with Oracle PL/SQL and/or MS SQL (table creation, indexes, complex queries & stored procedures).
  • Strong knowledge of the .NET framework (4.5 and higher) and proficient with C#.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and SOLID design principles
  • Proficient in ASP.NET MVC, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and JQuery
  • Experienced with front-end frameworks (AngularJS, Knockout, React, etc.)
  • Experience with SOAP and Restful Web Services (WCF, Web API)
  • Working knowledge of Agile software development best practices.
  • Experience with several of the following:Cover-All Dev Studio, Gupta, C++, HTML/CSS/JS, VB, VB Script, PHP, Java, Python, XML, API integration, JIRA, Confluence, UiPath, WordPress, Tableau.
  • Insurance experience is a very big plus.
  • Experience with applying design and architectural patterns
  • Experience with code review and evaluation
  • Good at understanding requirements and estimation
  • Good team player, have ability and willingness to mentor junior developers
  • Have passion for learning new technologies and enhancing existing skills
  • Understands solution at the project level
