Job Summary:

Liberty Mutual Insurance has an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal to join its Intellectual Property Practice Group within the Corporate Legal Services Department. This group is responsible for providing legal support for various strategic business units in the Company primarily focused in the areas of technology, procurement, marketing, and trademarks.

The paralegal will provide critical support to several attorneys supporting the operations of the Company primarily focused in our Procurement function. The scope of work involves, among other things, working with internal stakeholders to complete and ensure business requirements and legal standards are achieved in a variety of corporate transactions such as Master Services Agreements, Software as a Service Agreements, and other similar corporate transactional matters.


The successful candidate will interact and collaborate effectively with Liberty attorneys, colleagues and clients at various levels across the Liberty organization and requires strong interpersonal and communication skills. This challenging position requires high standards of legal and business ethics and modeling of Companys philosophy of customer service and compliance. The candidate must possess a demonstrated ability to understand technology as well as learn new ideas and concepts. The successful candidate will be a proactive self-starter who is both highly organized and a team player. The ability to independently problem solve, analyze data, and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of projects by clearly summarizing and communicating facts is critical. The successful candidate will be flexible and able to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a core resource for and work with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements. Summarize and identify legal issues and deviations from the Company standards in reports to counsel.

  • Draft a variety of agreements, amendments, and related documents for third party engagements for review by counsel. Track and report on status of open projects.

  • Manage databases related to overall project initiatives and standard forms/templates.

  • Perform legal/factual research on federal, state, and global matters as they relate to the practice group.

  • Act as direct contact for and/or interact with internal business clients, outside counsel, and international colleagues on day-to-day privacy issues.

  • Ability to lead processes and analysis as warranted and provide recommendations on next steps/approach.

  • Evaluate ongoing processes and suggest recommendations for improvement.

  • Identify and assist in the implementation of new technology to help increase group efficiencies, metrics tracking and reporting.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required, in addition to 2-3 years of working experience as a Paralegal in a law firm or in-house setting preferred. Paralegal certificate preferred.

  • Strong research, verbal and writing skills

  • Detail oriented

  • Team-oriented mindset and strong work ethic

  • Ability to multitask and follow up

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong knowledge and use of Microsoft office software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyze legal and factual issues and summarize findings.

  • Ability to work independently in a demanding business environment.

  • Extremely comfortable with learning new technologies
