Overview

The Multiline Underwriter is responsible for the evaluation, selection, acceptance, rejection, pricing and servicing of commercial and agricultural insurance policies within accepted company procedures and guidelines. Maintains effective agency relationships and manages agency profitability within assigned territories.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze commercial lines accounts to make decisions based on individual risk characteristics, exposure analysis, hazard recognition and controls
  • Review new business and make sound underwriting decisions to write profitable business
  • Determine acceptability of renewals utilizing loss control inspections, loss experience reports, Google Maps and internet tools as well as any other information available to make sound underwriting decisions
  • Review and revises pricing and coverage to ensure premiums charged are commensurate with the exposure
  • Responsible for thorough documentation of underwriting decisions aligned with authority grant
  • Review daily correspondence, reports, endorsements, loss control reports and publications pertaining to responsibility
  • Examine loss notices, desirability of risk notices from claims and recommends appropriate action
  • Maintain a specific class of business within specified territory and assigned agents following company guidelines and procedures
  • Place facultative reinsurance for risks exceeding the reinsurance treaty capacity with the company
  • Review the underwriting decisions made by underwriting assistants or anyone in a support role to ensure the quality of the decision is in line with business practices
  • Conduct training sessions for the team leveraging experience and skills to help teammates learn and gain new skills and insights

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of multi-line underwriting experience (prefer NY, NJ territory experience)
  • This experience should results in the knowledge of property and casualty underwriting procedures and policies, ISO/CLM computer programs and Microsoft Office Applications
  • Prefer underwriting experience in small auto (10 vehicles per policy up to $25K), package, BOP, monoline property and GL
  • Strong analytical ability, organizational skills, results driven in a goal production environment.
