Position Summary

As a Senior UI Developer, you will be responsible for working with both the UX/UI design team and the full-stack engineers to create, maintain, and implement a scalable framework-agnostic design system with a universal pattern library of shared mobile and desktop UI components. You will be responsible for keeping track of the different teams that are using the library, and implementing solutions to their needs. This will include creating framework specific components for current and future technologies, such as Angular, React, Vue, etcetera. You will work as an integral member of the design team to help shape the structure of our atomic design patterns in an agile workflow. You will also work with our backend engineers to ensure that our UI and architecture are optimized in a way that enables performance, compliance, accessibility and implementation of business rules. An ideal candidate will be comfortable working on code and design simultaneously in collaborative work sessions with the UI and UX designers. An Ideal candidate will also be comfortable with shaping the project from square one.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a framework-agnostic UI pattern library
  • Updating, versioning, and deploying library assets
  • Develop a design system that separates the UI from the application code
  • Review all UI code for accuracy, compliance, accessibility, and performance.
  • Work closely online with UX and UI designers utilizing minimal handoff documentation such as spot-comps to create in-browser prototypes.
  • Implement a frontend workshop environment for rapid UI development and iterative experimentation
  • Learn and understand all popular mobile and desktop frameworks, libraries, and languages as they become relevant.
  • Act as a UI technology ambassador, providing educational documentation and training to coworkers
  • Train and mentor new developers in our custom UI pattern library, design system, third party frameworks, third-party libraries, best practices, and standards.
  • Document workflows, architecture and design patterns using diagram software such as Draw.io, Omnigraffle, or Visio
  • Collaborate and communicate with designers, project managers, and backend developers on a regular basis. No silos.
Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, interactive design, or equivalent
  • Five or more years of experience and a proven track record of creating comprehensive design systems with shared components
  • Proficient understanding of web and mobile markup, including HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, Java, and Swift
  • Basic understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as LESS and SASS
  • Experience developing enterprise software
  • Proficient understanding of scripting and JavaScript libraries and frameworks, including Angular, React, Vue, Prime NG, jQuery, and more
  • Experience working with design handoff tools such as Zeplin or InVision
  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
  • Good knowledge of design tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Photoshop, or Illustrator to be able to crop, resize, or perform adjustments on images, svg vector graphics, and custom icon fonts.
  • Experience creating and maintaining robust online design systems with UI kits, UI pattern libraries, and shared components.
  • Familiarity with Material Design
  • Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git/Azure DevOps
  • Experience with Agile, Kanban, Scrum, Sprint methodologies
  • Experience with project management tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Interest in AI, machine learning, and voice recognition is a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards
