The primary objective of this position is to serve as either lead or support analyst on project requests as submitted by internal and external clients. This requires independent and team-based work across multiple lines of business while utilizing a range of analytical techniques and tools. All members of Data Analytics enjoy working with some of the most diverse global data sets, cutting edge technology, and the ability to see data insights turned into real business results on a regular basis.

The Data Analyst / Behavioral Analyst position requires professional and technical experience in a multidisciplinary set of data sciences to lead individual and organizational development of primary initiatives. This position may also require partnership with other key internal/external business and IT personnel to promote the effective and efficient use of analytical tools and resources. These tools and resources will be utilized in managing customer interactions, increasing market share, communicating and enhancing competitive advantages, and maximizing revenue and/or profits while reducing costs across all lines of business within Assurant.

Operations Execution 60%

  • Analyze effectiveness of analytical products and services to constantly improve tools, procedures, and workflows that minimize risk and enhance customer experience
  • Transform data into insights through leveraging internal and external tools (e.g., R, SAS, Python, SQL, Hadoop, Excel, Sawtooth, CART, etc.) to identify and quantify opportunities
  • Partial Management of data and data requests to improve the accuracy of decision-making and efficiency of resources, personnel and data

Effective Communication -30%

  • Understands the business opportunities to hypothesize as an individual researcher and in collaboration with other team members in identifying the optimal business solution
  • Produces clear, insightful, understandable work products (visualizations, reports, presentations, etc.) to outline business opportunities and actionable recommendations internally and externally
  • Effectively partner with I/T, Account Management, Operations, Digital, Finance, Marketing and others to communicate findings from teams analytical insights, design tests and incorporate recommendations into business processes
  • Collaborates with Behavioral Analytics team members to prioritizes requests requiring multiple resources for thorough project completion within stated timelines
  • May participate in the talent acquisition process by screening and interviewing candidates at all levels

Strategy Development 10%

  • Build strategic insights and planning function that not only executes various projects and studies but also adds substantial value to the decision-making process through proactive data analysis, reporting, and research
  • Work cross-functionally with business owners to develop innovative advanced analytics products that will increase customer experience, capitalize growth opportunities, deliver competitive advantage and improve decision making
  • Participate and drive data modeling and governance best practices.
  • Partial project management operations in order to drive all aspects of projects including: understanding business requirements from stakeholders, independently formulating analysis approach and creating hypothesis, identifying required data, preparing data for analysis, testing hypothesis, conducting analysis, presenting complex information for various audiences in simplified terms, and identifying next steps and future opportunity
  • Remains abreast of developments in the field(s) of insurance, management, and data sciences by attending self-development programs, interacting with peers, and reviewing pertinent literature. Incorporates advancements when practicable and cost effective.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Statistics, Economics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Information Management
  • 2+ years of experience in business analysis, research, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, business intelligence, or related fields
  • 2+ years of working experience with data science tools (e.g., R, SAS, Python, SQL, Hadoop, Advanced Excel, Tableau, PowerBI, Sawtooth, CART, etc) and relational database software
  • 2+ years of experience in data analysis that includes translating insights into recommendations
  • Effective presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to travel at least once per quarter (10%)
