Job Description
The Associate Manager, Communications, position requires a versatile set of contemporary storytelling and writing skills, with the ability to work with graphic and motion designers to create appealing graphics and engaging content. This role supports and coordinates various communication and strategy tactics and messaging that drive our transformation strategy, engage our employees and define our culture.
The Associate Manager will develop and execute content, strategies and tactics that amplify the companys key technology transformation messages and create broader, positive awareness of our initiatives and outreach campaigns through expanded utilization of many digital media channels.
This opportunity is at Allstates Chicago office at the Merchandise Mart.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategically conceive, write and execute a wide-range of communication solutions in support of the Allstate technology organization of about 7,000 people worldwide.
- Coordinate all communication aspects of digital and analog production from intake through completion including scheduling, equipment decisions, travel, detailed storyboarding and advanced post production. This Associate Manager will be an expert in developing and establishing a brand voice, and driving engagement through captivating written content.
- Provide seasoned, best-practices written expertise to business partners enterprise-wide on solutions for communications and resources available to create change among internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Allstate technology leadership to better the enterprise-wide user experience of online platforms.
- Support manager with additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Develop strong, trusting relationships between clients and agency partners, providing leadership and support during strategy, ideation, and execution
- Manage client expectations, bringing issues/concerns to clients' attention before they become problems, offering potential solutions, and advising of potential delivery delays

Manages content review for communications materials
- Directs the content review cycle process to ensure it is meeting the needs of the client population.
- Recommends changes and improvements to processes based on understanding and use of best practice techniques and principles. Leads innovation in communication services.
Coordinates and executes client communications meetings and events
- Leads and/or executes moderately complex to complex client communications/recognition meetings and events.
- Negotiates with clients in moderate-risk situations and anticipates implications from various courses of action.
Develops and maintains effective partnerships
- Builds a network of contacts; develops and maintains cross-organizational relationships. Sets standards and improves performance and use of Subject Matter Expert network. Creates network with senior leadership.
- Possesses cross-functional awareness; understands the different contributions from other disciplines and works with colleagues from across the organization to achieve better results.
- Enhances others communications competence.
Provides strategic communications consulting and coaching to key clients
- Counsels clients on communications issues and opportunities. Proposes and probes implications of alternative strategies.
- Provides strategic communication counsel to more senior level clients.
- Recommends appropriate solutions to clients; helps others make informed decisions.
Identifies communications measures and metrics to ensure desired outcomes and alignment to business goals
- Defines communications outcomes and measures associated with complex communication approaches, frequently associated with initiatives that have broad strategic change impact. Measures and evaluates results of communication approach.
- Reviews and reports analysis of measurement outcomes for actionable items and initiates action.
Job Qualifications
- Advanced-Level Knowledge, Skills and Expertise
- Highly experienced written storytelling standards that deliver desired results and reflect best practices.
- Experience developing multimedia corporate communications or related professional experience with heavy emphasis on integration and communication with varied audiences required using various communication means.
- Highly experienced with written narrative, in both long & short form, through ongoing collaboration based on data and other input provided by the team.
- Able to connect ideas from cultural trends to drive innovative communication engagement
- Experience in developing a brand voice for high-profile brand preferred.
- Able to leverage multimedia storytelling techniques that will contribute to and elevate the delivery of the content in partnership with the Creative team, including photography, video, audio, etc.
- Highly proficient in copy editing, headline writing, caption writing for print, digital, and social media
- Advanced knowledge of social media dynamics (including impressions, etc.)
- Ability to translate high-level data into story-based high-engagement content
- Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign a bonus.
- Ability to adjust voice and tone, depending on assignment and audience.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office & Teams environment.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills that foster collaboration and teamwork.
- Research and organize facts and sources for copy to ensure accuracy and authenticity.
- Research markets and industries to benchmark content and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Consistently collaborate and brainstorm with creative team to identify new ideas and copy strategies
- Strong creative skills and the ability to analyze and integrate both client expectations and audience needs into an effective deliverable.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining processes and best practices for delivering finalized content and organizing the production asset environment.
- Knows social media platforms.
- Dynamic self-starter, highly motivated, comfortable in taking initiative, and able to work with a minimum of supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to perform under pressure.
- Ability to problem solve, prioritize, organize and multi-task.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Expertise
- Business Acumen: Knowledge of the insurance and financial services industry with special emphasis on Allstates technology organization.
Communication Strategy and Planning: Includes experience with setting objectives, developing long and short-range plans, measurement and analysis, identifying issues and risks, change management that aligns with our strategic vision and priorities.

- Counseling: Experience identifying and recommends opportunities for client, proposes and probes implications of alternative strategies.
- Client Interaction: Serves as a liaison between internal client or stakeholder and department. Maintains balance between client interests and company interests.
- Bachelors Degree in Communications, digital media strategy, corporate communications or related field

5-7 years of experience in digital media strategy or corporate communications
