Job Summary
  • Apply behavioral science expertise and academic insights to practical business challenges in the Property and Casualty Insurance industry.
  • Contribute to business outcomes as a problem solver, designer and coach related to behavioral considerations.
  • Inform decisions about how we develop product features increasing positive product outcomes.
  • In close collaboration with key stakeholders across Claim, apply behavioral science research and methodologies to influence choices customers or claimants make before or throughout the lifecycle of a claim.
  • Inform product design and experiences that increase positive outcomes for individuals, businesses and the company.
  • Design experiments, run research projects, and implement interventions with various teams across the company.
  • Direct and conduct pilots and ensure Travelers is prepared to incorporate changes into our strategies, practices and workflow where beneficial.
  • Projects will be varied and may include things like digital adoption, improving response times, reducing claim fraud and loss prevention.
  • Apply insights internally to influence how employees within the organization react to and manage transformational change.
  • This job does not manage others.
  • This job works under Broad Oversight: Receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and establishes the methods to attain them. Generally the incumbent is in charge of an area of work and typically formulates policy for this area, but may have final authority for approving policy.


Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the key enabler and facilitator for application of behavioral science to Travelers Claim strategies and projects.
  • In close collaboration with key stakeholders across Claim, apply behavioral science research and methodologies to influence choices customers or claimants make before or throughout the lifecycle of a claim.
  • Inform adjustments to claim practices, product design, business strategies and experiences that increase positive outcomes for individuals, businesses and the company.
  • Conduct industry research related to practices that will help identify areas of opportunity and ensure Travelers is prepared to anticipate, respond to and manage trends and incorporate new developments into our strategies, processes and workflow.
  • Design, conduct and analyze experiments/ research projects using scientific, qualitative and quantitative methods. Identify and present multiple recommendations for consideration as well as supporting documentation of these improvements.
  • Collaborate with product designers, data scientists, project managers and marketing and communications to design, develop, conduct and evaluate projects and proofs of concept.
  • Help to develop and document recommendations to improve Claim business line results. Implement agreed upon interventions in partnership with various sponsors.
  • Apply insights internally to influence how employees within the organization react to and manage transformational change.
  • Stay current and on the leading edge of trends and developments in behavioral science and related scientific fields.
  • Ensure that that applied principles are relevant and current.
  • Inform adjustments to claim practices, marketing strategy and customer services as appropriate to anticipate, respond to and manage trends.
  • Advocate behavioral science methods more broadly across the company and generalize learnings into a framework that can help bring behavioral science to scale.
  • Develop ongoing relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Act as an internal consultant to generate deeper behavioral insights.
  • Function as a liaison and professional relations contact on a local and national level.
  • Provide insights, best practices, tools, and training to help develop organizational capabilities in the application of behavioral science.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
Masters or PhD required 3 years' experience applying behavioral science insights and experimental research in a business setting required

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
  • 5+ years of applied industry experience in a business setting
  • Masters or PhD

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills: Ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it in an engaging and understandable way.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues to varying audience levels and engage effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively influence across all levels of management.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to working in a team environment and effectively collaborate across business areas
