Job Summary
As a member of the Travelers Information Security group, participates in initiatives primarily focused on email security.

Plans at an operational level and manages the effective use of resources to transform business-specifications into cost-effective IT Security solutions. Implements and/or maintains a medium system or multiple smaller systems and/or assigned project(s). Investigates, identifies, and resolves data security events/breaches independently. Responsibilities are assigned with some latitude for setting priorities and decision-making using established policies and procedures. This job does not manage others This job works under General Supervision: Incumbent independently performs a variety of duties, including potentially complex duties within established policy guidelines; responsible for a defined set of assignments (e.g. assigned customers, claims or other specified set of responsibilities); is expected to set priorities and meet specific goals and objectives of the function or unit. (Typically pertains to advanced/operational, senior professional, unit supervisor)

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Role Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the company strategies and detailed roadmaps related to email security
  • Supports existing email security controls from a platform as well as rule/configuration perspective
  • Advise the business on problems and issues related to email security
  • Environmental scans for new email security technologies. Evaluation of those technologies
  • Drive project roll-out and installation of new email security technology both on-premise and in the Cloud
  • Participates in the processes to find security vulnerabilities in Travelers computing environment, to analyze security risk, and to develop and implement plans to mitigate the security exposures found
  • Assess external threats (example from Media sources or FS-ISAC or FBI). Identify if it could impact Travelers, and create remediation plan
  • This position is open for candidates to work remotely.
Broad-Level Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide operational support, troubleshooting and maintenance of major Security related processes, controls or products. Analyze, configure, test, document and implement upgrades to security processes, controls or products. Designs, develops, and builds new data security processes. Participates/leads activities to resolve situations involving improper attempts to access or infiltrate our networks. Recommends changes to area procedures and products. Implements own recommendations with management review. Recognizes, analyzes patterns, and responds to security events and escalates to management. Consults with business peers to analyze, support, and resolve data security events. Understands and has input to the budget process, and shares responsibility for cost-effective expense control of assigned projects. Participate in Security and enterprise projects as assigned. Evaluate purchases and/or licensed software products to identify and address security exposures Act as a security representative at design and new technology meetings. Provides guidance to more junior employees.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Five years of work experience within Computer Science or a related field required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline preferred. Seven years of relevant experience with data security practices, processes, and data security event investigation/resolution preferred. Broad knowledge of all IT related technologies with subject matter expertise in IT Security related technology and business exposures impacting organizational vitality preferred.

Puts success of the team is above own interest. Leadership: Manages functional objectives and priorities supporting multiple assigned business units. Responsibilities are assigned with latitude for setting priorities and decision-making using generally accepted guidelines. Results are reviewed with next-level manager for clarification according to predefined objectives.
Planning and Project Management: Develops operational plans and provides resource estimation for task planning. Proposes plans of action that are timely, realistic, and positive. Sets appropriate goals for projects and monitors progress against the plan.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of and experience with email security controls, including:
  • Email hygiene/filtering
  • Email sender verification
  • Encryption
  • Advanced malware protection
  • Unsolicited email remediation
  • Experience supporting, and knowledge of, email security controls in the cloud (e.g. O365) and on-premise
Proven results in participation of creating and managing a successful email security program.
