PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Premium Accounting Representative performs routine premium accounting/clerical activities with general knowledge of premium accounting transactions requiring collection of premiums, assembling and auditing accounts, processing and posting of account cash, reconciliation of account discrepancies and preparation of various reports. Verifies contracts, policy information and account status.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform routine premium accounting functions

• Responsible for insurance customer billing, accounts receivable, and commission payments in an assigned territory
• Handles communication to insureds, agents, and underwriters in regards to payments and policy status
• Provides service to customers regarding types of payments and reconciles accounts
• Handles collections, lapses, and reinstatements
• Provides service to brokers and sales personnel regarding commissions

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

BS in accounting, finance, or business is required, plus 1 year of customer billing and accounts receivable (A/R) experience. Working knowledge and skills of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook and Word. Experience with automated accounting systems is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

None required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge of basic math and accounting concepts is required. Working knowledge and skills of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word. Ability to understand and carry out simple instructions in standard situations. Must be Customer service oriented with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and must have some understanding of collection procedures. Ability to effectively present information to policyholders, agents, and internal parties.
