About the role:

The Partner & Raters team, part of the Global Retail Market (GRM) organization is actively seeking a creative, adaptable, and results-oriented Technologist aligned to the comparative rater squad with a primary focus of supporting direction, driving modernization efforts in legacy systems, future state architecture roadmap, and helping develop and grow our talent using agile methods to deliver key technology in direct alignment with one of GRM-U.S.s Strategic Imperatives.

This role directly supports the GRM US strategic objective of being #1 in the independent agent channel, and you will act as a thought leader in this space, helping the squads deliver innovative solutions, as well as sharing best practices across the broader portfolio. The solutions you and your squads deliver are key to our success in the comparative rater space, and put a premium on performance and complex business rules execution.

You will be responsible for the implementation of technology by developing clear, comprehensive and integrated systems, technical and/or product recommendations which support our business plans. You will review and provide recommendations on the architectural design to ensure consistency, maintainability, stability and flexibility as well as analyze highly complex systems and technical issues to implement features and improvements in an iterative way that support the strategic and technical direction of the organization.

About the job:

  • You will act as the lead solution engineer or technical lead tasked with driving approved technologies that align with technical architecture, customer business plans and long term strategy

  • You will define the technical roadmap for aligned teams and works with other technologists to outline the roadmap at the portfolio level

  • You will make recommendations to improve process efficiency and effectiveness. Partners with squads drive and define the modernization strategy for key components of existing systems

  • You will consult on major architectural designs to ensure consistency, security, maintainability and flexibility with respect to overall system, technical and product architectures within a domain or portfolio

  • You will define authentication and authorization patterns that put the customer experience first while ensuring applications and data are secured appropriately

  • You will participate during incident management events and provides consultative recommendations on viable resolutions

  • You contribute toward forecasts of business and IT trends to define the technical direction within a portfolio and the market

  • You will bring a focus on high quality applications that demonstrate modern CICD patterns including automated integration and performance testing

  • You will guide the development of system, technical and product standards based on business plan and vision. In coordination with Architecture, and will research and make innovative recommendations around new technologies

  • You will be responsible for prototyping complex, cross platform business solutions to validate newer technologies

  • You will foster open communication on aligned teams, encourages bi-directional feedback. Guides team members in taking ownership of key squad responsibilities.

  • You will participate in the evaluation and selection of hardware and software product standards.

  • You will maintain collaborative and strategic partnerships between customers, vendors, business partners, and IT

  • You will craft dashboards to monitor application health and performance

  • You will contribute to decisions that impact profitability and operational effectiveness

  • You will facilitate cross-team/train findings, communication and alignment

Desired skills:

  • Bachelor`s or Master`s degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience; technical Master`s degree preferred

  • Minimum of 10 years related experience

  • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies

  • Experience building applications and web services using C#, with knowledge of the .NET framework, including Visual Studio, HTML, JavaScript, ASP.NET and Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, Stored Procedure

  • Proven working knowledge of ACORD XML strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of Safeco/Liberty Mutual systems is helpful.

  • Experience building and tuning applications on public cloud platforms including AWS, Azure or GCP

  • Direct experience with CICD pipelines using tools such as Bamboo or Jenkins

  • Deep understanding and experience with modern security practices based on OAuth, OIDC, SAML

  • Knowledgeable in software engineering languages and tools; proficient in new and emerging technologies

  • Full stack development experience, including security layer, UI, services and datastore

  • Experience with Agile software development practices

  • Highly developed negotiation, consensus building & influencing skills, facilitation and the adaptability to respond to change quickly

  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization
