Regional Property Specialist Job Summary

Salary Range: $81,378.00-$105,792.00


NOTE: 50% travel in the assigned territory, which is Eastern Pennsylvania.

Works within significant limits and authority on highly complex claim assignments. Determines coverage, investigates, analyzes, negotiates, and settles complex claims with high exposure while delivering quality customer service. Responsible for initial catastrophe claim response and on-site participation anywhere within the companys operating territory. Possesses highly technical skills and the ability to travel frequently.

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

1. Coverage/Investigation/Liability - Determines whether or not proper coverage exists for the type of complex claim assigned, typically with damages in excess of $250,000. Investigates thoroughly to obtain relevant facts concerning all aspects of the claim, such as coverage, liability, legal climate, potential exposure, and damages, and makes decisions, where appropriate, on claim resolution. Monitors ongoing case development for appropriateness.

2. Storm/Travel - Travels on short notice, regardless of location or duration, to handle large or complex losses. Participates frequently and as a first responder on catastrophe teams as required. May participate as a manager or co-manager of a catastrophe team.

3. Damages - Determines the value of the damage of property through physical inspections, the use of appropriate tools, and other experts/consultants. Obtains all necessary documentation to support claim evaluation. Recognizes claim file exposures and escalates appropriately.

4. Coordination of Resources - Selects, directs and supervises internal and external resources and experts impacting short and long-term claim results. Controls and coordinates the activities of cause and origin experts, engineers, consultants, accountants, attorneys and other experts. May coordinate countrywide handling of large/complex losses and participate in subrogation investigation and recovery activities.

5. Communication - Maintains effective and ongoing communication with claims staff, internal and external business partners, insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, other insurance companies, claims leadership, vendors/contractors, and public adjusters.

6. Customer Service - Ensures customer service excellence. Responsible for the customer and agent experience associated with assigned claims.

7. Reserving/Reporting - In accordance with Westfields reserving philosophy, establishes and reviews proper reserves for each claim based upon thorough investigation, evaluation, and experience. Completes appropriate reports so that the current status of the claim is clearly documented.

8. Negotiation/Settlement - Within decision making authority, negotiates timely and appropriate settlements with insureds, claimants, vendors, attorneys, and other insurance companies. Refers claims exceeding authority to appropriate leader with recommendations.

9. File Exposure Analysis - Participates in large/complex exposure file analysis and strategy development via roundtable discussions.

10. Leader Assistance - May substitute for other leader or supervise individual property claim files.

11. Collaboration - Collaborates with internal/external business partners, and large account customers, seeking and/or providing assistance or input when needed to support business strategies.

12. Coaching/Training - Assists less experienced claims professionals in the handling of large or complicated property losses. Actively participates in the coaching, development, training and education of claims professionals. Collaborates with property leadership team in the identification of property training needs. May partner with Westfield University to design, develop, and deliver training programs to claims professionals.

13. Travel - Travels as often as needed including regular utilization of fleet vehicle in order to cover assigned territory. This may involve traveling on short notice or daily driving duties as assigned regardless of location.

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

1. 5 or more years of property claims handling experience, accurately evaluating, negotiating, and settling property claims of all severity levels.

2. Demonstrated technical expertise in property claims and the ability to handle complex property claims in excess of $250,000.

3. Ability to frequently travel on short notice.

4. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, resulting in the ability to interact with all levels of management and employee population.

5. Conflict resolution experience.

6. Ability to analyze and interpret insurance policies and other contracts. Thorough understanding of applicable statutes, regulations and case law.

7. Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment and software packages.

8. Effective critical thinking and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to anticipate, recognize, identify, and develop solutions to problems in a timely manner.

9. Holds (or has ability to obtain) and maintains appropriate adjuster licensing and certification(s) in assigned territories.

10. Industry recognized designation such as CPCU, SCLA, AIC, etc.

11. Valid drivers license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.

12. Bachelors Degree or commensurate experience.

Physical Requirements (specific to the role)

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).

Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail etc.

Ability to travel as required.

Ability to operate an automobile within the parameters of the driving policy.

Ability to drive for extended periods of time, under a variety of conditions, including night driving.

Ability to physically inspect damaged property and/or loss locations, including the following: ascend/descend a 24' ladder, carry 60 lbs. (ex. ladder weight), traverse a sloped roof surface, walk, kneel, crawl, navigate rough terrain and inspect property in low light circumstances.

Ability to travel on short notice to handle catastrophe losses for a minimum of 2 weeks per year. Participates as a first responder on catastrophe teams if necessary. May participate as a manager or co-manager of a catastrophe team.
