Job Description

The Solution Architect is responsible for conceptual solution and leading design efforts for an application/project. The Solution Architect serves as the expert on the application architecture and coordinates with stakeholders to determine requirements, ensure designs are successfully implemented, adhere to enterprise standards and address operational readiness including monitoring and disaster recovery.

The Solution Architect can be involved in various levels of the project lifecycle or to assess production related issues and to determine design changes for the system in question and where applicable to determine broader patterns which will enhance availability, scalability, stability, performance and transactional integrity via implementation and work with other architects in fostering such design.

The Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Create Architectural solutions and documents including Conceptual, Context, Sequence, and lower level design diagrams
  • Lead strategic initiatives on various projects with a focus to simplify and develop new capacities to aid in business development
  • Establishes data governance, quality, standards and business processes as needed
  • Support capture of detailed business requirements and review technical designs to include these requirements to completion in the most desirable manner
  • Provide consulting and technical expertise on projects and production issues including scalability, performance etc.
  • Influence clients and partners to prioritize for enterprise benefit and risk reduction. Assist in driving the adoption of technology solutions that leverage existing patterns, practices, roadmaps and Architecture direction
  • Produce decision documents, position papers and statements on technology, solutions and or patterns
  • Work with various teams including business, technology, delivery, framework teams and other architecture groups
  • Be successful in creating clarity where there is ambiguity and lack of understanding across parties and be able to mediate conflict when there is disagreement
  • Be able to partner with business and leaders in order to improve the effectiveness of technology and business decisions
  • Should be able to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner

Job Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of experience with Enterprise based solutions that span verticals and horizontal lines of business as opposed to focused on a single application system
  • Hands-on experience with Java as an Architect or Lead Developer, participating in the entire SDLC (including requirement analysis, design, development, build, test, packaging, and deployment) of enterprise applications
  • Experience and knowledge in developing REST APIs including tooling for documentation (swagger, REST-docs, openapi spec), versioning, service discovery/registration, testing and management; experience using API gateways a plus
  • Experience and knowledge in web and API security including authentication, authorization, OAuth, OWASP, OpenID, and SAML
  • Understanding of application based instrumentation for performance measurement, traceability, exception logging is required
  • Fluent with UML, Visio and Sparx. Ability to draw architectural diagrams including Conceptual, Context, Sequence, and lower level design diagrams showing system/service interactions and protocol/transport in between
  • General understanding of both Unix and Window O/S from the point of view of services and daemons as well as various virtualization models under each
  • Understanding transactional life cycle with goal of transactional data integrity
  • Have strong problem solving abilities
  • Have written position, or direction documents that are then governed to by others as part of the software development life cycle process
  • Able to work effectively across organizational and geographical boundaries
  • Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred

  • Knowledge in property and casualty insurance domain
  • Experience in backend development, design and implementation; database (relational, NoSQL, caching), messaging and big data development, implementation and optimization
  • Experience with Java Spring
  • Experience with Java Script frameworks like React or AngularJS
  • Experience in developing continuous integration, continuous delivery and continuous deployment pipelines for distributed apps
  • Experience with packaging/build tools like Gradle, Maven, NPM, Artifactory, Jenkins, Concourse, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience on approaches and tools for automated testing and monitoring
  • Experience in testing frameworks like JUnit, Mockito, Jasmine, Protractor, Cucumber, and other like technologies
