Role Value Proposition:

The Underwriting Coordinator III performs duties related to the underwriting support of applications for individual life insurance policies. Additionally, they will interview and provide technical support to customers during the application process. You will also evaluate applications for individual life insurance and accept or decline the risk based upon analysis of medical history, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest or other information pertinent to the decision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Builds and maintains relationships with internal sales partners, vendors and internal colleagues to support the fulfillment of an efficient customer experience as it relates to underwriting new or inforce business\
  • Applies time management skills to prioritize deadlines appropriately
  • You will interact daily with customers to gather information, explain decisions and courses of action.
  • Sound decision making and judgment by having the confidence to make decisions within their authority, and know when to use their judgment on unique situations and when to escalate the situation to management Must have a proven ability to interpret customer medial histories to complete underwriting rules triage questioning. The ability to assist customers develop their medical histories during the course of customer interviews. As directed by leader may mentor Underwriting Coordinator III associates that are new to the role. Conducts personal history interviews and with customers as it relates to the application processes Answers questions to ensure that all supporting forms and underwriting requirements are complete with proper signatures.Orders and traces missing underwriting requirements including attending physician statements, medical test results, customer reports, etc. Reviews sales illustrations from sales representatives for completeness and resolves discrepancies. Maintains detailed documentation on all cases being underwritten. Updates underwriting systems and other databases with underwriting decisions and requirements. Create amendments, adverse underwriting decesion and other letters as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

    Undergraduate degree preferred in the field of Life Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Nursing or other
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant business experience in the financial services industry
  • Working knowledge of the end to end process of life insurance applications and post issue underwriting transactions
  • Strong attention to detail to follow business processes correctly, anticipating and understanding the downstream impact and ensuring high quality the first time/every time. Effective problem resolution, organizational skills, detail oriented and uses sound business judgement. Excellent written and oral communication skills to communicate clearly and concisely by telephone and email. Works with a sense of urgency, accountability and ownership; results driven Easily adaptable to changes in business processes, work priorities and work environment Successful candidates must receive a FMLI designation during the first year of employment.
