Job Description
Allstates Innovation Team is at the forefront of change and growth within the company, driving the creation of standalone businesses or reinvention of existing ones. Innovation projects typically include cross-functional team members within Business Strategy, Product, Technology, Design, and Go to Market functions, who use data-driven prototypes and testing to achieve desired business outcomes. The team is seeking to augment its analytics capabilities further by growing a small team of data science and analytics researchers with a senior data scientist position. Past projects in the team have included the development of a new consumer digital footprint technology, announced at CES 2019, and new approaches to risk prediction for traditional insurance products.
The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for developing models, algorithms, and techniques using structured and unstructured data to solve challenging problems for both existing Allstate businesses and new ones in incubation. The role will also lead efforts to extract, clean, evaluate, analyze, and visualize various internal and external datasets using machine learning and statistical analysis and be a key communicator to stakeholders. Collaboration skills should be a key strength of the individual, since the job will require interaction with not only internal cross-functional leads and other analytic roles but also likely academic researchers and 3rd party commercial work partners.
Job Qualifications

- 5+ years of experience relevant to data analytics, with some of that time in a lead role.
- Strong proficiency in statistical techniques for exploratory, predictive, and causal analytics with experience in applying them to solve business problems for large-scale programs.
- Strong proficiency in one or more common languages commonly used in data analytics (Python, R, Java, Scala, etc.).
- Knowledge and experience in development of models and algorithms, including machine learning-based approaches, using common industry tools and libraries.
- Proficient in SQL and database management, both relational and big-data platforms.
- Experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau and graphic representation of complex data.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulation and best practices.
- Past experience in the insurance industry and other related risk prediction efforts highly desirable.
