Description:

The Underwriting Insights team creates data focused recommendations to influence the strategy and operations of the GRM Business Lines organization. We use various analytical techniques to understand and prioritize various improvement levers, including touch/no-touch underwriting decisions, underwriting standard methodologies, strategic investment evaluation, and book quality management. We work closely with partners across GRM to support effective decision-making and deliver results.

Our team sits within the Portfolio Management team within the US Product Business Lines organization. We support a small commercial business with significant growth aspirations and are on the leading edge of settling how to best achieve those goals.

Responsibilities:

This person will use quantitative and analytical methodologies to better understand the performance of key Business Lines initiatives and identify high-value improvement opportunities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop intake and prioritization processes to ensure future BL initiative monitoring needs are known and planned for
  • Collaborate with partners in GRM Product Economics to develop a consistent framework, metrics suite, and process for evaluation of BL initiatives
  • Define specific metrics, targets, and variability tolerances for both large-scale BL initiatives and smaller operational improvement efforts
  • Align key partners to measurement and monitoring processes, how trends will be interpreted, and what actions will likely result from various potential outcomes
  • Develop low-effort mechanisms to monitor performance of improvement initiatives and BL operations, flagging metrics that fall out of specified tolerances for investigation
  • Identify root cause drivers and estimate impact of improvements
  • Collaborate with partners and SMEs to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities
  • Develop & deliver effective executive-level presentations to communicate findings and influence decisions

Qualifications:

You will possess some of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelors or masters degree in a quantitative field (example: economics, math, statistics, operations research, actuarial sciences, etc.)
  • Three to five years of professional experience in an analytical or quantitative risk-management position
  • You will demonstrate the ability to identify themes and trends from large data sets
  • You will have a confirmed ability to synthesize analysis into stories for an executive audience
  • Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint required
  • Understanding of insurance products/pricing/processes preferred
  • Experience using Tableau, SQL/SAS or similar statistical packages preferred
  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or service operations preferred
