Position Summary

Plans, manages, oversees, integrates and directs the work of technical staff maintaining the corporate critical infrastructure technologies for the database, Server (Windows/UNIX), storage up and backup environments. Oversees engineering staff, offshore support resources and vendors to ensure service level commitments are met and cost-effective solutions are delivered. Collaborate with the business units to develop cost effective solutions that meet requirements while providing performance and high availability.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, controls, integrates and evaluates the work of assigned staff; manages, recommends and oversees the development and implementation of work providing support for corporate databases, enterprise storage, server administration of all environments; develops, implements and monitors long-term plans, goals and objectives focused on assigned priorities; participates in the development of the annual department budget.
  • Plans and evaluates the performance of the engineers and offshore staff; establishes performance requirements and personal development targets; regularly monitors performance and provides coaching for performance improvement and development, addresses performance deficiencies, in accordance with the corporate personnel rules, policies and labor contract provisions.
  • Provides leadership and works with team leaders and staff to ensure a high performance, customer service-oriented work environment that supports achieving the departments and corporations mission, strategic plan, objectives and values.
  • Recommends the acquisition, configuration and deployment of windows/UNIX hardware/software, corporate databases, enterprise storage and backup environments.
  • Confers with business managers and IT staff regarding current and anticipated information systems requirements and the feasibility of alternative conceptual approaches to meeting requirements; develops and recommends short- and long-term plans for various upgrades; works with division management to prioritize these upgrades and expansions.
  • Provides management and support of enterprise server (Windows/UNIX) platforms, storage systems, backups and database servers in production and non-production environments.
  • Maintains optimization of environments including upgrades, performance monitoring and system audit tasks.
  • Manages contract renewals, negotiations and updates with various third party support agreements and contracts.
  • Provides status reporting (availability, performance capacity utilization) as required.
  • Participates and establishes in the development of corporate data standards and policies.
  • Evaluates and recommends new technology solutions that can support and enhance the achievement of division and corporate objectives
  • Keeps current with technologies and trends to be able to lead engineers in establishing solutions which are aligned with our roadmap.
Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 years of technical background and 5 years of in managing engineering teams which include database administration, server, storage and backup.
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems/technology or related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Principles, practices and techniques of information systems management, including applications design, hardware and software options for business, engineering and operations applications and the cost-benefit of systems alternatives.
  • Server, Cloud, database management and data storage systems and software, including architectures, diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Understanding of basic principles and practices of business administration, including budgeting and purchasing.
  • Identify information management issues and opportunities, analyze problems and alternatives and develop sound conclusions and recommendations.
  • Assess user business unit needs, set priorities and allocate resources to most effectively meet needs in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective customer-focused working relationships with managers, customers, vendors, consultants, employees and others encountered in the course of work.
