The Vice President, Deputy Chief Compliance Officer (DCCO) reports directly to the Chief Compliance Officer and is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, operations and program management of the Ethics and Compliance program for Assurant.


The DCCO assists the Chief Compliance Officer in providing guidance on ethics and compliance matters and directly manages various operational functions, including but not limited to training, policies and procedures, auditing and monitoring to ensure adherence to Compliance guidelines and protocols.


Further, this position works with the Compliance leadership team to implement policies, procedures, and practices designed to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations across the Enterprise.


This role will also assist the Chief Compliance Officer with department-wide initiatives and ensures that compliance program initiatives are implemented and championed across the company.


Additional key responsibilities

  • Design, guide and assist in execution of global Ethics and Compliance program.
  • Work collaboratively with and lead senior compliance department leadership and program team in the development and improvement of the compliance and ethics program. Establish effective working relationships and build credibility within the Company, especially at senior management and operational leadership levels, influencing without direct authority to support a culture of ethics and compliance.
  • Advise senior management and operational leadership on issues concerning compliance and ethics matters including recommending controls designed to ensure compliance.
  • Builds highly engaged, effective teams that consistently succeed in delivering value-added, customer-focused services.
  • Work with the Compliance operational team to implement effective assignment of resources to assist with education, research, auditing and monitoring activities.
  • Support the Chief Compliance Officer in the evaluation and management of the effectiveness of the ethics and compliance program.
  • Revise, develop and implement Compliance, and Ethics Charter, applicable compliance and ethics policies and procedures, and Standards of Conduct.
  • Implement policies and procedures that encourage employees, leadership, contractors, and clients to report compliance concerns without the fear of retaliation.
  • Independently investigate or support supervision of the investigation of compliance and ethics concerns that are raised through Ethics Helpline, internal reporting, or other reporting mechanisms.
  • Lead the development of an annual Compliance Work Plan outlining Compliance department work activities for the upcoming year.
  • Assist the Chief Compliance Officer in long-range strategic planning for the Compliance Program department in response to quality assurance and process improvement activities and industry-leading best practices for effective compliance and ethics programs. Remain abreast of industry best practices and changing standards.
  • Design and implement innovative approaches to support continuous auditing and monitoring of operations in support of the Compliance Program through data mining, analytics, and benchmarking.
  • Prepare compliance reports for submission to the Chief Compliance Officer, Board of Managers, and Tenet Quality Compliance and Ethics Committee, including but not limited to ethics and compliance matters, activities of the Compliance department, and the completing status of Annual Work Plan.


Basic qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field or JD is required.
  • Minimum 15 years progressive responsibilities in compliance in a large, multi-national company preferred.
  • Compliance Certification preferred.

Other requirements and preferred qualifications

  • A demonstrated track record of superior performance in Compliance leadership roles; a background ideally gained in a multi-national regulated insurance or financial services company.
  • Recognized for demonstrated knowledge in compliance process improvement.
  • Clear, concise and persuasive writing and presentation skills; ability to influence sr leaders and Board of Directors.
  • Strong organizational skills and an orientation to deadlines and detail; Ability to manage a diverse department and demanding workload.
  • Able to provide leadership and direction to an organization, yet willing to listen, take counsel and balance the interests of diverse constituencies.
  • Demonstrated success integrating compliance into daily operations.
  • Proven track record in developing, designing and implementing global policies, procedures and training in a diverse, matrix environment.
