Job Summary
Overview:
Operations Finance is a fast-paced department with high visibility to Operations & Finance Leadership. This role is responsible for leading and financially supporting the Middle Market and Small Commercial Operations Organization (comprised of about 1,500 employees). This role plays an integral part in providing financial & analytical support to business partners across Operations, while also having the opportunity to develop and demonstrate leadership skills with the LOB Finance Community. The individual will be a key member of the Middle Market and Small Commercial Operations Senior Leadership Team and will assist with business goal-setting through:
  • Financial modeling & financial analyses to support the establishment of the annual plan, current forecast and multi-year plans.
  • Development of new models and metrics to monitor business initiatives in execution and developing/utilizing enhanced tracking capabilities.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:
This role has four major components:
  • Finance Lead for the Middle Market and Small Commercial Operations Organization
  • Produce accurate and timely monthly financial results & analysis with robust commentary
  • Active member of the Middle Market and Small Commercial Operations Senior Leadership Team
  • Fully accountable for the annual plan, monthly forecast and tracking changes/variances from plan
  • Partner closely with the BI Finance community to ensure alignment across Business Insurance Underwriting and Operations
  • Pro Forma Financial Modeling
  • Build out integrated, modeling capabilities to support multi-year strategic planning for these two organizations
  • Document and track financial benefits associated with strategic initiatives
  • Support finance and business leadership discussions on scenarios, options and risks to achieve greater efficiencies and scale
  • Cost Benefit Analysis Modeling
  • Accountable for the development of CBA's providing input and driving balance of solution cost and benefit realization against capability goals and objectives.
  • Build framework for quantifying benefit realization post project implementation
  • Special Projects
  • Take on periodic short-term assignments to support Operations 2VP, Technology & Ops CFO and SVP of Operations
  • Various ad-hoc analysis and projects directly supporting Business Insurance Operations
  • Preferred Skills:
    Strong excel/modeling skills are critical. Strong desire to learn, research, and find answers to questions efficiently and completely. Critical thinking, including learning the current state and effectively challenge the status quo when applicable. Strong business partnership skills with the ability to consult and engage across functions and leadership levels. Strong business and financial acumen is key. Experience with business presentation efforts helpful but not required. Knowledge of TM1 or key financial tools and systems also considered helpful.

    Other Desirable Skills/Traits:
    Team oriented, strong desire to learn, engage and take on complex assignments for senior leadership consumption. Strong deadline management to support a fast-paced and dynamic working environment. Ability to participate and engage meaningfully with senior leaders as a contributor of thoughts, provider of findings and author of analyses and recommendations.

    Technical Competencies:
    Excel, PowerPoint, TM1

    Minimum Qualifications
    Minimum of 3 years of related experience.

    Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
    Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting preferred. Typically 4+ years of related experience. General knowledge of Financial Analysis concepts, principles and processes.

    General knowledge of the insurance business. Intermediate analytic skills. General knowledge of accounting practices and principles. Intermediate data utilization skills to access and gather data, including a basic understanding of what the data represents. Intermediate written and verbal communication skills. Intermediate time management/ prioritization skills. Intermediate ability to solve problems and suggest solutions. Intermediate decision making skills. Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook). Intermediate influencing of cross functional peers. Intermediate business perspective including an understanding of the political nature of the organization. Intermediate project management skills. Ability to identify customers needs and take appropriate action to meet those needs. Ability to work well in tight timeframes and deadlines. Intermediate ability to present material concisely.
