MGA located in New York is in need of an Underwriting Assistant to support their Underwriting Department.

The job holder will be responsible for providing a wide range of underwriting support on assigned existing, new and renewal accounts. Support will include routine contact with brokers, controlling offices, and other departments. It will also include information researching activity, pricing activity using a computerized rating plan, preparation and distribution of policies, preparation and distribution of billing invoices and arrangement for booking of same. In addition the position will be responsible for updating service reports on assigned accounts, updating a price monitor report on assigned accounts, and other related Excel or Word based reports. Additional job duties as may be needed within the department or unit.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide clerical and communication support to underwriter(s) on the U.S. part of major multinational programs to ensure full service is provided to the client, broker and producing office.
  • Work within established department, client guidelines as well as partners guidelines.
  • Liaise with Claims, Premium Accounting or other departments to resolve outstanding issues, and ensure service meets established standards.
  • Contact with major brokers and clients on basic policy and service issues
  • Ensure premium booking is processed and completed correctly.
  • Prepare policy documents that are correct, neat and professional. Distribute the policy documents and all copies to the appropriate recipients
  • Keep service records up to date
  • Handle off site archive of policy folders following established guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Good self motivation and organization skills
  • Analytical skills and good basic math skills
  • Ability to work with standard computer programs Excel, Word and Lotus Notes, as well as mainframe systems and the internet.

  • 1 to 2 years prior insurance experience; High School grad
