Job Details

Leads and manages personal lines casualty claim staff operations within the CARE Team. In this role you will also manage projects and services to achieve CARE Team objectives and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and directs a team of managers and associates who handle simple to complex Casualty claims involving coverage and liability investigations.
  • Responsible for the growth and technical development of their team, particularly in regards to coverage analysis, investigation, damage assessment and controlling time element exposures.
  • Execute on Claims Department strategies to achieve Claims quality, customer service and operational objectives.
  • Manage, lead and develop claims staff.
  • Develop a partnership with sales and underwriting to deliver customer service and foster agency relationships consistent with State Auto’s mission, vision and values.
  • Will work closely with claims counsel, general counsel, and reinsurers.
  • Litigation experience is preferred.
  • Prepare associates for presentation of high exposure claims to the Large Loss Committee.
  • Reviews, coaches and provides authority for losses of moderate to high complexity.
  • Oversees all claims related functions and provides feedback and suggestions to CARE Leadership.
  • Ensures compliance with Department initiatives and Compliance related matters.
  • Prepare and manage department budgets.
  • May be called upon to perform additional duties as directed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Experience/Education:

  • 10 years or more in property and casualty claims handling experience preferred.
  • High school degree or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • Insurance designation preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and Microsoft and Google applications.
  • Must obtain and maintain necessary adjuster licensing when required by the position and the work that is being done.

Communication:  Human Relations and Customer Service experience is required. Ability to explain simple and complex issues. Prepare and deliver presentations. Participate in the interview and selection process of CARE staff. Provide coaching feedback to direct reports in a clear and concise manner. Must communicate regularly with staff regarding latest legislation, policy changes, and changes in claim practices and procedures.

Collaboration:  Must be able to collaborate and develop strong team relationships with associates from within and outside the CARE Team.

Technical Knowledge:  Must have knowledge in claims processes and procedures along with overall knowledge of the insurance industry. Must have the ability to read and understand legal documents.
