Job Introduction:

This role will work in the Corporate Functions Global Finance Technology group using Agile methods to deliver key technology in direct alignment with the business strategies. The team is looking to hire a Manager, Application Portfolio and Software Development supporting the Actuarial & Modeling Applications Portfolio.

In this role you will actively manage, coach and develop a distributed team of employees organized into two Agile squads operating within Scrum practices. The team provides two main functions:

  • Delivery of various 3rd party modeling tools that support critical Actuarial functions across the Enterprise including Reserving, Pricing and Catastrophe and Economic Capital Modeling.
  • Delivery of analytical and reporting capabilities on premises and in the cloud for our business partners.

Working with the team, stakeholders, and product owners this role will determine and implement the strategic plans for each of these business capabilities to support the ongoing success of Liberty Mutual.

About the job:

  • Manages an application, software development unit and/or portfolio of applications and ensures system, technical and product architectures are aligned with business objectives.

  • Ensures application or portfolio of applications are enhanced and maintained to meet business functional need and vendor product maintenance remains current.

  • Oversees the development, implementation and execution of project plans; ensures scope and schedule are established for projects and assignments.

  • Works with customers and technical staff to ensure service level agreements are met, problems are resolved in a timely manner, application enhancements are completed and process and technical improvements are identified and implemented to improve overall operational efficiency.

  • Hires and manages individual contributors; coaches and counsels team members. Defines individual performance objectives and development plans and ensures alignment with organizational objectives. Appraises and evaluates team and individual performance and makes compensation recommendations. Facilitates or provides mentoring experiences.

  • Responsible for unit's workforce and talent management plans, including skills forecasting, staff development, training and succession planning.

  • May establishes financial plan for the application, portfolio or overall unit and manages to plan.

  • Initiates and fosters collaborative partnerships with current and potential clients, IT and business managers, vendors and IT executives; develops relationships that support increasing efficiency and effectiveness.

  • May lead efforts to evaluate, select and implement new technologies to enhance application, until or portfolio.

  • Participates in the development of business and/or IT vision, strategies, critical success factors and operating plans for application, unit or portfolio.

Desired skills:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in systems operation and administration, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Requires knowledge of the operating environment - technologies span mainframe, midrange, desktop, server, network data, voice, messaging, web, database and output/receiving.

  • Strong consultative and communication skills, analytical ability, judgment and the ability to work effectively with client and other systems technical staff, consultants and vendors.

  • Extensive knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies.

  • General knowledge of business functions and business operations.

  • Knowledge of modeling tools and concepts.

  • Knowledge of actuarial practices in support of reserving, pricing, ECM and exposure management.
