How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Director of Annuity Valuation and Reporting role is a position for managing the annuities valuation and consolidated annuities financial reporting activities of Brighthouse Financial. This person will manage and oversee the actuarial valuation (GAAP, Statutory, and Tax) including financial reporting, analysis, modeling and SOX compliance for the annuities business in Brighthouse. This person will manage the tax reserves, reserves for reinsurance, and consolidated financial reporting for quarterly and year-end analysis and rating agency data requests for annuity products. He or she will have responsibility on assuring Brighthouse applies and meets the reserve and valuation standards under various reporting basis and supporting valuation analysis for insights to manage the financial and actuarial risks embedded in fixed annuity products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct one of the annuity valuation team for monthly and quarterly valuation production duties for Statutory/Tax and GAAP financial reporting, while support other deferred or payout annuity blocks
  • Track and review SOX controls to ensure quality and integrity of financial reports
  • Lead analysis of GAAP, Statutory and Tax reserves results for the responsible annuity block, while support other deferred or payout annuity blocks
  • Lead development of valuation analytics to support financial and actuarial risk management insights for the responsible annuities, while support other deferred or payout annuity blocks
  • Lead admin and valuation system conversion projects for the responsible annuities, while support other deferred or payout annuity blocks
  • Support data requests from reinsurance, pricing, and internal audit departments
  • May participate in cash flow testing of the annuities
  • Monitor changes in actuarial regulations and assess company standards to ensure compliance
  • Lead the development of actuarial talent in the Annuities Valuation unit
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • FSA with 7+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities within an actuarial valuation department, or ASA with 10+ years of relevant experience required
  • Experience with actuarial valuation for annuities required
  • Experience with statutory statements and reporting required
  • Knowledge of asset liability management and or cash flow testing plus
  • Knowledge of hedging plus
  • Attention to details required
  • Knowledge of retail deferred and payout annuity product designs preferred, including living benefit riders
  • Experience with valuation and projection software such as Prophet, PolySystems, Pathwise, etc. preferred
  • Experience with database tools preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and project/people management skills required
  • Must be a team player in the collaborative environment at Brighthouse
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of capital market valuation of derivatives and portfolio investments plus
  • MBA, and/or finance/accounting experience plus
