The Sr. Director, Data Analytics Engineer provides strategic oversight and defines implementation approaches for International's iHUB data analytics environment with focus on delivery of Worldwide Data Domains and standardized reporting and analytics processes which will be a primary integration point between International locations and the US business segments.   

A successful candidate embraces change and has significant influencing skills along with deep knowledge of data architecture, data management principles and a broad understanding of business analytics needs and tools/design techniques.  This position will partner with US Business Segments (BI, PI and BSI as well as Claims and Ops) and the Country teams (Canada, Europe, Brazil and Multinational) to lead the operationalization and automation of International data and analytics products.

 
  • Directs the work of other employees and will have direct reports.
  • Responsibilities include performing complex analysis, expert level design, configuration and programming functions for impactful and visible projects.
  • Leads investigation and resolution efforts for critical, high impact problems, defects, and incidents.
  • Ensures work complies with Travelers standards, processes, and protocols. Identifies gaps and recommends solutions.
  • Recommends best practices regarding data usage.
  • Leads a portfolio of projects, working across departments and business areas.
  • Manages the effective use of line of business resources to implement ongoing projects, enhancements, initiatives, and/or problem resolution. projects and/or enhancements. Analytic  Consults on projects, resolves complex data issues and provides training and education to clients and staff.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction through professional communication, follow-up, and responsiveness to issues. 
  • Builds, maintains, and utilizes partnerships across the enterprise.
  • Develops & drives data strategies within the context of business need. Integrates work efforts within respective business portfolios.
  • Bachelor's Degree - STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or Business preferred.
  • 8 years of relevant experience with data tools, techniques, and manipulation preferred.
  • 5 years leadership experience preferred.
  • Master knowledge of data tools, techniques, and manipulation preferred. Examples (but not limited to): Big data and Hadoop platforms and languages - SAS, SQL, Spark, Python, Pig, Hive, QlikView, Tableau.
  •  Ability to communicate thoughts/designs/ideas in an unambiguous manner and adjusts communication based on audience.
  • Exhibits active and effective communication skills with team members - including active listening and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to develop and leverage business and/or vendor partnerships, consult on business priorities, and optimize value through solution identification aligned with business objectives, goals, and future data direction.
  • Carefully evaluates alternative risks and solutions before taking action including escalating situations as appropriate.
  • Able to recognize and support team priorities.
  • Able to accurately assess the financial impact of recommended designs/solutions.
  • Demonstrates ability to understand relevant costs associated with assigned project work.


6 years of relevant experience with data tools, techniques, and manipulation required. 3 Years of Leadership experience.
