How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

Reporting directly to the Leader Capital Strategy and Analytics, this position is responsible for supporting cross-functional efforts to manage the companys capital strategy through statutory, GAAP, and economic capital frameworks and proactively mitigate risks related to capital requirements. This role will also support efforts to establish and monitor capital targets and limits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and refinement of capital models that produce integrated and just-in-time calculations and projections of capital positions
  • Assist in development and refinement of models that allow analysis and projections of capital positions from S&P, Moodys, Fitch, and AM Best, as well as ALIRT
  • Assist in the development of capital strategy in collaboration with key internal stakeholders to support the companys business strategy and remain compliant with various capital requirements
  • Assist in the companys statutory, GAAP, and economic capital reporting efforts
  • Assist in the implementation of capital optimization strategies
  • Perform the calculation of statutory, GAAP, and economic capital measurements for accounting and risk stakeholders
  • Support communication efforts related to statutory, GAAP, and economic capital considerations to stakeholders, including senior management, regulators, and auditors
  • Understand and support the communication of the implications of all significant transactions from a statutory, GAAP, and economic capital framework
  • Support financial and regulatory reporting activities related to statutory, GAAP, and economic capital usage
  • Assist in reporting activities to the Board of Directors and senior management related to capital strategy
  • Perform other related activities as required

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 1+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities in the areas of corporate finance, capital management, and capital strategy within large financial institutions
  • Superior analytical skills and strategic thinking ability
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing large, complex Excel models
  • Strong understanding of statutory, GAAP, and economic capital frameworks
  • Undergraduate degree in related discipline required;
  • Experience with capital management, detailed analyses, and coordination with senior leaders on implementing actions to take advantage of opportunities or mitigate economic risks identified
  • Industry leading knowledge of financial markets and economics
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and management skills with the ability to persuade, negotiate, and arbitrate to influence others to effect change and achieve desired results
  • Demonstrated ability to consider multiple views while making business decisions
