(Individual) Health Insurance Underwriter

This is a full time role and is on site at the home office (remote is not an option)

Position Summary:

Senior Individual HEALTH Underwriter handling a full product lineup in a captive environment. (this is not a group Underwriter role). This position requires the incumbent to be experienced in reviewing insurance applications in order to evaluate, classify, and rate each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing in achieving the mortality, morbidity and profit objectives of the company.

As an experienced Health Insurance Underwriter, you will be expected to interpret and report MIB codes, apply knowledge of medical conditions, medications, and medical terms. Accurately read medical records read and interpret medical history and attending physician statements, physical exam results, and blood/urine data. You will have knowledge of the claims process data and claims history. You could be asked to coach and help to train and develop junior and tele-underwriters. You will have the opportunity to assist the chief underwriter in special projects as well.

Qualified candidates will be experienced with Word, Excel, Outlook, and traditional underwriting and mew business system platforms. You will have excellent time management and organization skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills. You will be expected to have attention to detail and a high level of professionalism at all times and be able to work under deadlines.

Education: Minimum of a high school diploma, (bachelors is preferred but not required). Any industry certifications such as (RHU) are a plus but not required.

Experience: 3+ years experience with (Individual) Health Underwriting is required to be considered for this opening.

This is a full time position offering competitive base salary and a generous company bonus. The range for the position is 55-70k and the bonus is variable in the 6-15% range.
