Global Risk Solutions (GRS) National Insurance (NI) reserving is seeking an Actuary to be responsible for evaluating the adequacy of WC reserves, supporting the planning process and managing a team of 4-5. This position will focus on providing accurate and granular Workers' Compensation (WC) reserve analyses and effectively recognizing and communicating key trends and areas of uncertainty to senior leadership in GRS and National Insurance (NI). Primary accountabilities are WC reserve adequacy valuation, including the development and implementation of enhanced analytical techniques and operational improvements. This person will interact closely with the NI Actuarial and Product teams to share and gain insights into the business. This person will possess strong analytical and communication skills, an ability to think strategically, as well as a proven ability to execute thoroughly in a collaborative and innovative environment.

Responsibilities:

As the Actuary for this group, you will supervise reserve opinions and adequacy assessments for WC segments. You will lead the implementation of advanced reserving techniques and WC claim-level models in partnership with the Reserve Modeling team. You will partner with Claims and Product to understand impacts of initiatives and book of business changes, and incorporate into ongoing WC reserve analyses.

  • You will provide consultation to Senior Leadership regarding reserves, loss development, trends, and their impacts on business planning and pricing
  • You will understand and quantify uncertainty in WC reserve estimates. Quickly recognize, and effectively communicate to key partners, the trends that affect reserve development
  • You will be the project manager for annual Planning work including development of Baselines and Cash Flows
  • You will support annual Audit review, working with the cross-lines team to provide data requested and answer questions, as needed
  • You will build and maintain creative and streamlined diagnostic and monitoring tools to provide quick and granular insights by segment
  • You will produce quarterly presentations to Chief Actuaries and other senior leaders, including maintaining and updating templates
  • You will perform segment reviews and deep dives for areas of concern, working collaboratively with Claims and Product to identify and quantify risk to ACE
  • You will build and implement process improvement initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional partners
  • Manage staff of credentialed actuaries and actuarial students
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) required
  • Typically, 0-2 years post-fellowship. Overall 5-7 years of progressively more responsible experience, including supervisory experience.
  • Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, claims, sales, etc
  • Strong communication skills; proven ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, and ability to influence senior management and partners
  • Ability to drive teamwork and collaboration across departments and functions
  • Ability to lead and get work done through others; selects and develops staff members
  • Ability to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization
