Responsibilities:
  • Conduct high complexity analysis for business units and functions, and participate in the management of complex projects while providing technical and analytical assessments of issues facing the business. 
  • Utilize advanced statistical techniques to solve business problems. 
  • Utilize, update and adapt predictive modeling tools and focus on the application of the tools. 
  • Develop analytic tools that will increase effectiveness and efficiency and guide decision-making. 
  • Synthesize data from diverse sources to better answer complex questions. 
  • Present findings and recommendations which impact profitability, growth, and customer satisfaction. 
  • Participate and facilitate discussions with senior leadership regarding innovations in advanced analytical tools.
Qualifications: The position requires a Ph.D. Degree or foreign equivalent in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field, PLUS one (1) year of experience in the job offered or a related occupation OR a bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field, PLUS five (5) years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. The position requires one (1) year of experience with each of the following: programming in R, Emblem, SAS, and Python; development of machine learning models including GLM, Regularized Regression, Decision Trees, Random Forest, Gradient Boosted Trees, Neutral Networks, Clustering, PCA, and Support Vector Machines; predictive analytic techniques and statistical diagnoses of models including Bayesian inference, detection of multicollinearity, outliers, assessment of overfitting, ANOVA, and residual analysis; model validation techniques including cross-validation, bootstrapping, and out-of-time/out-of-sample validation; building insurance pricing and underwriting models including pulling and preparing relevant datasets, building the models, validating the models, and estimating economic benefit; development of generalized linear models, mixed effect models, and Bayesian hierarchal models; Hadoop, Spark, EC2, S3 and other big data/cloud offerings; optimization of machine learning algorithms through distributed computing and GPU acceleration; and working knowledge of the contract and pricing regulation of the U.S. personal insurance Auto and Homeowners products. Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.
