Job Details

Primary Purpose:

Function as the day to day supervisor of the underwriting technician staff. Provide assisted direction for all personnel and assist the Manager and Director of Underwriting with managing process, workflows, achieving team objectives, working escalations and general supervisory responsibilities. Assist with difficult customers or situations and work toward resolution on behalf of the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Continue to train, mentor and support the Underwriting Technician role within Underwriting
  • Drive service excellence in support of sales, agents and employers
  • Proactively support, supervise and oversee a team to ensure service levels are maintained with accuracy and high level of service quality
  • Provide escalation support for the team on issues of service in a timely manner, act as a liaison to the Management of operational areas to ensure efficient, effective resolution, provide proactive consultation related to service opportunities
  • Translate strategies into clear, actionable objectives and drive implementation of initiatives
  • Monitor and track service volumes including group set up and addition turnaround time
  • Help develop and maintain training materials, processes and workflows for all service and renewal activities
  • Coordinate regularly with Manager and Director of Underwriting to discuss strategy, review service levels and audits, new business efforts, and staffing
  • Assist with education of new hires and ensure that the appropriate training is provided and mentoring is provided in areas of need

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
  • 4+ years of customer service experience
  • Experience in health care insurance and strong knowledge of terminology
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Desired Skills:

  • 1+ year experience in Customer Service Management
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership problem solving, decision making, and conflict resolution in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Self-Funded or Group Health Insurance
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
