Job Details

The Liability Supervisors primary responsibility is to manage and resolve liability (property & bodily injury) claims. This position is dedicated to providing customer service to policyholders and claimants by providing fair and timely resolutions of liability claims. The Claims Supervisor is responsible for directly supervising Claims Examiners/Field Adjusters assigned to daily claims. Daily claims is comprised of approximately four to five examiners responsible for monitoring, resolving and tracking bodily injury and property damage claims. Serves as the primary resource for the team in resolving issues associated with claims handling.

The following are the usual, basic and essential functions of the position. These functions are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Negotiate and explain settlements with the insured/claimants and/or their representatives.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls from agents, public adjusters, insureds, and other vendors.
  • Review and analyze written information.
  • Knowledge of multiple policy forms.
  • Must live in the South Florida Tri-County area
  • Supports catastrophe operations as needed to include working extended hours during designated CATs.
  • Knowledge of basic negligence theories of liability
  • Investigate, evaluate and recommend settlement of bodily injury and property damage liability claims.
  • Actively participate in the interview and selection of new personnel.
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of personnel.
  • Provide continuous training to personnel.
  • Maintain service standards, reporting procedures, statutory compliance and the efficient operation of unit.
  • Responsible for the direct resolution of problems, complaints and general public relation issues, which arise concerning claim issues.
  • Extend coverage, reserve and settlement authority on losses which exceeds individual level.
  • Maintain current knowledge of changes in respective area of law impacting liability claims.
  • Responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures which impact claim processing.
  • Evaluates all claims, provides guidance and settlement authority.
  • Effectively manages loss, loss adjustment expenses and loss reserves for claims assigned within the unit
  • Identifies complex claims/develops strategies and settlement solutions
  • Builds relationships with external business partners and exercises independent judgement in dealings
  • Performs training to internal/external staff members as required
  • Supporting underwriting teams and partners in connection with claim trends, marketing and business development and retention activities.
  • Monitor individual performance and ensures it meets expected quality and performance objectives.
  • Develop professional development plans for employees to improve performance efficiency.
  • Train employees on good faith claims handling procedures.
  • Resolve coverage issues and reviews denial letters.
  • Monitor caseloads and new claims.
  • Interact with policyholders, claimants, and attorneys to achieve claim settlement.
  • Assist in hiring and training new candidates in their job responsibilities.
  • Ensure receipt and maintenance of appropriate licenses for themselves and assigned staff for all states that claims are handled.
  • Communicate with policyholders, vendors and employees in a professional, positive, and proactive manner.
  • Work collaboratively across all internal departments. Strong knowledge of the claims discipline and evaluation of claims performance based on quantitative and qualitative results.
  • Strong problem solving and staff development skills.
  • Ability to negotiate and establish a personal rapport with opposing parties, and to resolve conflicts in a professional manner.
  • Attends mediations, settlements and legal proceedings as required

Required Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

  • Bachelors Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • 5+ years liability supervisor experience.
  • Must have a record of having successfully achieving business goals, including managing staff members
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Windows 10, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Must possess a Florida 6-20 Insurance License.
  • Possession of other state license as required by management.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interpret research and opinions and apply accurately to establish action plans.
  • Demonstrate solid understanding of global company knowledge, totality of impact of decisions, and leadership abilities.

Demonstrate exceptional leadership and diplomacy skills with the ability to coach, develop and mentor to bring out the best in the employee.
