As an Accountant, focused on investments), you are responsible for recording and controlling the Companys investment transactions and maintaining an inventory of the Companys investment portfolio. Accuracy in record keeping and timeliness and efficiency in investment transactions increases the Companys profitability, so this position is considered a key component to overall success.

Essential duties and responsibilities for this role include:

• Preparation of journal entries for all investment transactions such as; purchase, sale, interest, premium, amortization, accrual of discount, options, cash transfer, repurchase agreement, etc.
• Work with brokers to complete investment transactions.
• Reconcile all of the brokers statements.
• Prepare all of the investment and cash schedules for quarterly and annual statements, including the purchase and sales schedules, cash schedules, private equity schedule BA and schedule D
• Prepare a monthly listing of owned securities. The listing should be reconciled to the brokers statements and to the related accounts in the General Ledger on a monthly basis.
• Calculate unrealized gains or losses and prepare the related journal entries.
• Calculate accrued investment income and the related journal entries.
• Prepare audit schedules, as the Companys external auditors require them.
• Prepare reports and schedules required by the insurance departments and other regulatory agencies.
• Keep records of securities deposited with the various government organizations.
• Process custody and management fees/invoices and prepare the related journal entries.
• Follow all monthly, quarterly, and annual Model Audit Rule (MAR) controls.
• Update and maintain an accurate record of securities listing in iWorks.
• Other duties as assigned; including, but not limited to, journal entries, account analysis, assisting with financial statements.

Required educational background and experience:

A Bachelors degree in Accounting is required, in addition to a minimum of three years work experience in Accounting. Excellent computer skills, especially Excel and Word, are required. An Investment Accounting background and previous Insurance experience would be helpful, but are not required.

Required language skills, mathematical skills, and reasoning ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond orally or in writing to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to read and understand financial statements.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus. This position requires more than 80% computer use. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
