Job Description

General Statement of Responsibilities

The Communications Specialist is responsible for the overall development and administration of the communications function. This includes assisting in the oversight of all internal and external communications, working with Sr. Director of Member Services in developing and implementing a communications plan, coordinating internal information for proper dissemination, and working effectively with all external vendors.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a communications plan to include relevant goals and strategies for PERMA and NEAMI audiences.
  • Publish and distribute the monthly PERMA Bulletin.
  • Assist Sr. Director of Member Services by working with the communications vendors in researching and developing promotional ideas for PERMA and NEAMI.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with outside vendors to ensure our message is accurate and clear, as directed.
  • Develop and/or review press releases for distribution to identified media outlets.
  • As requested, review and edit written content and visual presentations of all the staffs external communications including meeting announcements, marketing materials, membership correspondence, etc.
  • Make recommendations, and implement them as approved by management, regarding the most effective vehicles for communication of various issues to members and the public at large.
  • Edit Board packets, newsletter contributions, website materials and executive reports, as necessary.
  • Under supervision of the Sr. Director of Member Services, produce newsletter three times a year: February, June, October.
  • Assist in the production and coordination to create the Annual Member Conference Awards video, manage budget, theme, etc.
  • Assist Event Coordinator by monitoring PERMA.org to ensure a smooth interface for all users, especially members, staff and board members, etc.
  • With input from Sr. Director of Underwriting & Sr. Director of Member Services, compile, verify and categorize information to marketing materials in-house, as necessary, to assist in PERMA member acquisition and marketing for the retention of current members.
  • Serve as intermediary between Member Services and outside graphic designer and public relations firm on marketing related issues.
  • Serve on various PERMA committees and assist as needed.
  • Take a proactive approach to office safety and ergonomics and adheres to all safety policies.

Required Skills:

Minimum Requirements: The following are required to enable the employee to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Skills/Knowledge: Must be self-motivated and possess strong interpersonal skills, excellent written communication skills, leadership skills, and organizational skills. Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Experience/Education:Must possess knowledge in the area of marketing data collection and analysis. 4 year degree in the field of marketing and research preferred. Must have valid drivers license.
  • Physical effort and dexterity: job will require occasional lifting and carrying of up to 20 pounds. Must be comfortable with the use of the keyboard and telephone. Some stooping and kneeling may be necessary. Driving required.
  • Visual acuity, hearing, speech: Speaking and hearing in ordinary conversations will occur frequently and be required. Visual abilities will need to include color discernment, comfort with the PC screen and ability to see and read reports.
